State Tournament Recap: Day 1

Natalie finished the game with 22 points &amp; 19 rebounds. She also added 3 blocks to her stat line! She made 22 &amp; 19 look easy! How many double-doubles is this on the season now for Smith?! She's a walking double-double! Natalie was able to dominate in multiple faces of the game. She positions herself extremely well, and she is tough to keep off the glass! Smith has a soft touch around the rim. It was a remarkable effort and game by Natalie! </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Hailey Newsome was the second leading scorer for Nitro today! She finished with 10 points! Newsome drilled in 2 beautiful 3's! She was 2-3 from behind the line. I can see this one heating up quick if you don't get out on her. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='728687' first='Mika' last='Adams'] was incredible on the defensive side! She laid her body on the line and took 2 charges! She may have only scored 2 points in this game. However, her defense is one to make notes on! She is a great on ball defender! Adams led her team in steals with 4! Mika also added 2 assists! </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='872778' first='Haley' last='Justice'] flirted with a double-double. Justice led her Pikeview team in scoring with 10 points. She also hauled in 9 rebounds! Haley was able to show glimpses of just how good of a player she is! She came out in the first quarter unstoppable! I stated that she may be one of the most underrated players in the state! If Justice keeps working, she is going to be tough for all opponents to handle!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Greenbrier East vs Morgantown in a AAAA battle! Morgantown won 47-31!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='722078' first='Kayli' last='Kellogg'] does not play like a freshman! She led her team in scoring with 21 points! Kellogg also added 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals! My favorite stat line by the freshman is one turnover! I'm sure she would love for it to say zero! Kayli has made an immediate impact on a good Morgantown squad. If Morgantown wants to repeat, they are going to need Kayli to keep playing like the junior/senior that people think she is! </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='877498' first='Paige' last='Smith'] finished with a double double! Smith had 10 points and 12 rebounds! She also recorded 2 blocks! Paige shot 50% from the field on 3-6 shooting! She was everywhere on the court! You can give Smith the hustle stat award! Workman led her team in steals with 5! She is a good on ball defender, &amp; help defender! Sammons shot 8-14 from the field! The freshman is a high IQ athlete! She's a young guard that brings intensity! Sammons also added 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals! I love that she finished the game with only one turnover! Sabrina Ionescu once said, "If you can shoot, you can shoot." Records are made to be broken and Addie did just that! Adkins broke the 3 point record. She knocked down 8 three pointers. She shot 8-11 from 3! Addie is also a great shot blocker! She recorded 5 blocks on the night! What did Ionescu say again? Yes, [player_tooltip player_id='379526' first='Addie' last='Adkins'] can shoot too!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='379522' first='Brooke' last='Adkins'] is a special talent! The guard is truly versatile! She shot 50% from the field! She scored 10 points and hauled in 7 rebounds! Adkins also had 7 assists and 4 steals! Brooke is a D1 talent that plays the game of basketball the correct way! She's unselfish and she can play whatever position or role that is asked of her! How do you stop Brooke, Jaycelyn, Addie, and the rest of the Wayne squad? </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='722412' first='Autumn' last='Kerchner'] finished the night with a double-double! Despite the loss, she led her team in scoring with 11! She also pulled down 12 rebounds! Autumn's season may have came to an end, but she continues to prove the type of athlete that she is! </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Weir vs East Fairmont in a AAA battle! She also had 5 steals and 6 rebounds! Rogers is a do-it-all athlete and she proved that again on the court today! Rogers can score in bunches and she can score in numerous ways! She put in two from behind the arc! Yes, 18! She also scored 9 points! Shupe dominated on the glass and she continues to show that "every rebound is mine mentality!" </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='872784' first='Rayna' last='Hoover'] finished the game with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Despite the loss, Hoover had a stellar game! George Washington won 59-30!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='379495' first='Finley' last='Lohan'] played a great all-around game! Finley finished with 16 points, 12 rebounds, 6 blocks, 5 steals, &amp; 3 assists! That is truly an impressive stat line! One of my favorite stat lines for Lohan was her shooting 100% from the foul line. She was a perfect 6-6 from the line. Lohan is a great two-way player! She made things happen for her team throughout the entire game! I'll reiterate that UNC Wilmington is getting a great one!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='379527' first='Zaniah' last='Zellous'] has been hard to stop for every team this season! It was no different against Musselman! Zaniah finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds! I'm excited to see who lands this Power 5 athlete! The junior has put together one remarkable junior season! If anyone needed a reminder, Pryor is a freshman! Jeriyah is explosive on the court! Pryor's skillset is one for everyone to witness! She knows how to stop on a dime. She is great at changing speeds. Did I mention how great of a passer she is? What you will see from Jeriyah is not what you see from a freshman! </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Philip Barbour vs Lewis County in a AAA battle! Lewis County won 53-42!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='872859' first='Ella' last='Pinkney'] had a double-double at halftime. Ella finished the game with 20 points and 14 rebounds! Pinkney is great at attacking and getting to the rim. The guard truly has a non-stop motor! If Ella isn't on your radar, she should be!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='391468' first='Kenna' last='Maxwell'] finished with 17 points, 5 steals, and 5 rebounds! Maxwell hit crucial shot after crucial shot. As soon as it felt like Philip Barbour was making a run, Maxwell would show up and either finish a layup, or get to the line and knock down her free throws! Bodkins finished with 20 points on 9-14 shooting! Rylee is at her best when she is attacking the rim! She was able to get to the rim numerous times throughout the game and finish!
