There were shooting guards who were spot on with their jumpers from the corners of the court. Many of the guards could get down hill in a hurry and score the basket or set up their teammates for the scoring opportunity. A lot of guards were agressive on the defensive end and were good on-ball defenders. In part one of our guard articles, we hilight some of the 2025 guard prospects who performed well at the Sunshine State showdown.
Markeli Jones-Tynes Markeli Jones-Tynes 5’9″ | PG Westminster Academy | 2025 State FL (2025) has the ability to get to the rim and has that switch she can turn on. Her ability to get by the defender with that first step is lethal. Jones-Tynes also has greet footwork in the paint. She had the ability to create open shots for herself and teammates. She can also shoot the jumper, especially in the midrange area.
Jaeden Williams Jaeden Williams 5’7″ | SF Winter Haven HS | 2025 State FL (2025) was an impressive player to watch and what stood out was her steadiness on the court. She didn’t do anything fancy, but was always making plays. She scored inside the paint, ran the floor well in transition, and can finish. Williams hustles all over the court and doesn’t think twice about diving on the floor for a loose ball. Williams had one finish where she caught the pass in traffic and was still able to finish.
Anilys Rolon Anilys Rolon 5’9″ | SG Dr Phillips | 2025 State FL (2025) was impressive and got to see her in different roles other than as the three point specialist. She can definitely shoot the theee, but Rolon was mixing it up in the paint, getting the ball to the rim, and playing lock down defense. Rolon had a great steal and took the ball coast to coast for the score.
Highlights
Noelle Mengel Noelle Mengel 5’9″ | PG Bloomingdale | 2025 State FL (2025) had her game locked in like her mouthpiece and she was very versatile on the court. Noel puts a little sauce on her drives and has the ability to get to the rim with a lot of euro like steps to the rim. Her two steps to the rim are masterful and she loves shooting off of one leg. Noelle also had some nice midrange jumpers and some three point shots. She can score the ball from any level on the court.
Azzariah Styles Azzariah Styles 5’6″ | CG Plant | 2025 State FL (2025) was really impressive over the weekend. Her quickness, aggressiveness and ability to defend on the ball really stood out. Styles was also impressive on the offensive end with her ability to score the ball at all three levels. Her outside shot was consistent, especially from behind the three point line.
Olivia Olson Olivia Olson 5’10” | SF Mainland | 2025 State FL (2025) can flat out play and she knows how to score the ball. She has the handles, the ability to get pass a defender with good footwork and moving the defense enough to get the driving angle to the basket. Olsen is a savvy scorer, has a high basketball IQ and is athletic as well. She puts a lot of pressure on a defense and keeps the opponent on their heals. she was one of gthe top guards in the Sunshine Showdown.
Abby Knauff Abby Knauff 5’9″ | SG Bolles | 2025 State FL (2025) long three from the corner Knauff amazed with her athleticism. Knauff hit several open threes. Knauff got to the rim a a few times. She has the ability to score in the paint as well as her bread and butter catch and shoot three point shot.
