Capt. Conan Picks Five Athletes For Coverage Club

In the immortal words of Scott Hall: “You know who I am, but you don't know why I am here.”   When I became a Prep Network scout in 2020 the main reason was to provide exposure for Kansas Athletes who might have difficulty being noticed. That is still the goal, but in the current world, of multi-thousand dollar investment in club and travel squads, social media drama, high school political games between administrators, coaches, and parents, plus $3.00-plus gas, there are several variables that can sidetrack a scout.   To navigate those roadblocks I have created a new series of scouting reports for all three Prep Network sites I scout for. I have also created a new “alter ego” to crush those roadblocks.   It's human nature to imagine having superpowers. People often think to themselves, “I wish I could sing, dance, look, or write like him or her.” I have often wondered what my in-ring gimmick would be if I were a professional wrestler.   Partially inspired by those past thoughts, anticipated spring movies like If and Planet Of The Apes, and wanting to return to the basic reason I work as a scout, I introduce my alter-ego “Captain Conan.”   Captain Conan has the enthusiasm of Captain Caveman, the brawn of Conan The Barbarian, the voice of Merle Haggard, the writing skills of Peter Gammons, the soul of B.B. King, the fatherly advice of John Walton, the intelligence of Ken Burns, the moves of Elvis Presley, the heater of Nolan Ryan, the grit of Josey Wales, the mic skills of Dusty Rhodes, the survival skills of Willie Nelson, the fashion sense of Ric Flair, the research skills of David McCullough, the self-confidence of Reggie Jackson, the coaching skills of Dean Smith, the leadership of Pat Summitt, the chi of Phil Jackson, the toughness of Jackie Stiles, the killer-instinct of Cheryl Miller, the ball skills of Lynette Woodward, the size of Manute Bol, and the ability to come through in the clutch like Michael Jordan.   This series of reports won't be organized by position, by school size, by club team, by league, by region, by graduation year, or any statistical category. I have stated before that we have an abundance of data at Prep Network. These reports will include athletes that data suggest need more exposure or athletes I feel need extra exposure.   This series of reports is dedicated to fellow scouts Wade Cargile and Robert Kelly who might be the only two people who will know all of the individuals mentioned above without using Google.   Here are five athletes that I am happy to welcome to “Capt. Conan's Coverage Club." There won't be any secret passwords, special handshakes, or decoder rings necessary for inclusion.   [player_tooltip player_id='456521' first='Savannah' last='Phillips'], 5'9”, SF, Arkansas City, ‘25   Phillips is ranked No. 34 by Prep Girls Hoops and has not recently been featured in any online reports. She is a quick forward who is willing to crash the boards. She finished her junior season scoring 8.4 points per contest in 21 games. Phillips also collected 5.4 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. She also plays volleyball for Ark City and recorded 161 kills and 28 blocks in 77 sets.   [player_tooltip player_id='350256' first='Avery' last='Stindt'], 5'9”, SF, Republic County, ‘25   Stindt is a two-sport prospect for the Republic County Buffaloes. She is athletic and excels both at basketball and softball. She finished her junior season scoring 11.9 points per game and grabbed 5.5 rebounds per contest. Through 18 games, she is hitting .509, has nine extra-base hits, and has driven in 19 runs on the softball field.   [player_tooltip player_id='773193' first='Charlize' last='Cash'], 5'9”, SF, Concordia, ‘26   Cash is one of the higher-ranked athletes in the Kansas Class of 2026. She is long and is willing to fight for rebounding position. She is also a multiple sport prospect, but her other sport is volleyball. She collected 108 kills and 44 blocks for the Panthers' Volleyball squad last season. She communicates well with teammates and is an unselfish player who will do the small things to win. Prep Girls Hoops currently has Cash ranked No. 17 overall in the Kansas Class of 2026.   [player_tooltip player_id='544018' first='Faith' last='McCallop'], 5'6”, PG, Bishop Miege, ‘26   McCallop is a spunky point guard currently ranked No. 18 by Prep Girls Hoops Kansas in the class of 2026. She finished her junior season scoring 8.3 points per game and averaging four assists per contest. She has excellent court vision and plays well in transition or in the half-court. McCallop was a 74 percent shooter from the free-throw line last season for the Stags.   Georgia LeMay, 5'9”, SG, Bishop Miege, ‘27   Bishop Miege has a dual-sport freshman being recognized by scouts at multiple Prep Networks family of websites. LeMay is currently on the “Watch List” at Prep Girls Hoops and is ranked No. 14 overall by Prep Dig Kansas. The two-sport prospect had a more significant impact at the varsity level in volleyball. In 99 sets played as a freshman, she racked up 266 kills. She made appearances in 19 varsity basketball games and averaged at least one rebound per game.
