College coaches lined up for the greatly anticipated MBA GUAA 25′ vs Mystics Ruh 25′ game and stayed throughout the day. The elite level of skill development, cohesive teamwork between the players, and athletic profile of the prospects in the gym made the tournament truly terrific. The elite matchups brought the absolute best out of top teams. In the best game of the day, MBA GUAA won a thriller 52-49 and I found myself wishing I could stop the clock. Top Performers at the event made a strong case about why they should be regarded as some of the top prospects in Michigan at their positions.
Josie Desmit (MBA GUAA 2025) blew me away with her court vision, handles, efficiency from 3, and defense at the MBA Mother’s Day Classic. Josie has an explosive step that she used to split through defenders and draw help to kick out for open shots or score. She finished a floater in the paint and used a jump pass over a defender to a teammate on her drive. Josie makes accurate passes using either hand from any delivery angle; she has elite court vision. When she does pull the trigger, Josie is an efficient outside shooter from a balanced platform, drilling 3’s from multiple spots. She demonstrated elite level skills required to play PG at the next level and knocked down clutch free throws late to help secure the victory for her team (MOI, Business).

Camryn VandenBosch Camryn VandenBosch 6’1″ | SF Holland Christian | 2025 State MI was an incrediblly athletic, strong, and effective three level scorer for MBA GUAA 2025 at the MBA Mother’s Day Classic. She was an assasin from outside, drilling many 3’s from the corners and wings. Camryn has the face up ball handling moves to use behind the back snaps and crossovers then drive and score contested shots off balanced against 6 footers. Her performance Saturday against elite forwards, high school accolades, athletic profile, and offensive skill set cemented her as a top 5 prospect in the state. Camryn was the undeniable MVP and most impressive all-around prospect I saw compete on the court Saturday (MOI, Business).
Highlights
Vanessa Rodriguez Vanessa Rodriguez 5’5″ | PG Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard | 2026 State MI (Mystics 2025 Ruh) demonstrated her ability to compete and win matchups against top 2025 guards in state at the MBA Mother’s Day Classic. Against taller guards, she used her quickness and balance to release accurate shots from 3. Vanessa buried 3’s from the corner and up top with little time to get the shot away. She elevated up to knock down a pass attempt and secure the steal. Vanessa accelerated by defenders and scored a contested layup going into the body of a 6 foot post. She hit two free throws late to give her team a chance to win and played exceptional basketball Saturday.

Alice Max Alice Max 6’2″ | PF Rochester | 2025 State MI continues to build on her progress and development with Mystics Ruh 2025 as one of Michigan’s top W/F prospects. She turned away multiple shots inside and recognized the perfect moment to drop off her girl and strip the ball away in the low post. Alice worked to gain the advantage inside and caused a foul on a put back attempt after securing the board. She comfortably pulled up and drilled multiple wing 3’s on the day. Her speed and length in transition sets Slice on a higher playing level. Alice pivoted & hit a fadeaway jumper. As she continues to fine tune her ball handling, efficiency shooting, and physical strength inside the paint, her ceiling will keep leveling up.

Kaitlyn Geurink Kaitlyn Geurink 5’11” | PF Hamilton | 2025 State MI greatly impressed on both ends of the court at the MBA Mother’s Day Classic. Her strength and discipline inside to defend top forwards caused missed shots and helped her team win. She finished with powerful attempts off two feet at the rim all day and would not be denied on the offensive glass. Kaitlyn caused havoc stealing the ball away many times and demonstrated the control to score with a full speed left at the rim. Kaitlyn has the range to shoot outside and used an impressive rip move to score in the low post. One of her wow moments happened when she set a screen and sprinted hard to the paint to catch and convert a layup off two feet. She blocked shots and set herself apart as one of Michigan’s best forward prospects because of her physicality and strength defending in the toughest possible matchups. Kaitlyn’s dominance on both ends proved she belongs with the best (MOI, Undecided).

She kept the ball moving using different passing deliveries with both hands and knocked down multiple 3’s off the catch with high efficiency. Jordyn caused a miss with her high handed closeout and used a quick sweep move on a baseline drive to put move-in front of her defender before filling the net on a mid-range jumper.

Grace Mitchell Grace Mitchell 5’10” | CG Paw Paw | 2025 State MI competed at an extremely high level for MBA UA 2025 at the MBA Mother’s Day Classic. She has a strong and athletic physical profile, which combined with her height at the guard position, creates challenges for defenders. Grace moved the ball using accurate left and right handed passes and beat her defender off the dribble middle to score a contested reverse layup. She showed determination to stick with a missed shot and out-work a crowd in the paint for the ball before causing a foul to earn free throws, made both. Grace demonstrated her accuracy from beyond the arc, hitting 3’s from up top and the wing. Her downhill driving ability, strength, and outside range make her an excellent guard in this class. Grace competed and won battles with top ranked guards, earning an upset victory with her team on Saturday (MOI, Physical Therapy).
