Continue ReadingI embellished just a tad in the the previous article speaking about Houston vs Texas but how about most Houston vs Texas with some Houstonians added? Naw, we’ll stay the course but let me say this, the game was star studded to say the least, many of the players are ranked nationally, some got where the should be about right but like anything else, certain things play into rankings, not mine as I have my algorithm which in laymen’s terms means “it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it against” and that’s also known as the “common sense” approach so here we go
2020
Fatou Samb-6’4 P- with numerous offers including BCS on the table, watching her progress over the years has been a joy because of her desire to get better and willingness to put in the work. She’s controls the paint at times, on both the offensive and defensive ends, good timing enables to block and (or) alter shots but she runs the floor after rebounding and igniting the break and I think she’ll be an even better college player
Sahara JonesSahara Jones-6’1 F- nothing like watching a player that’s vocal and backs up what she says. She was a beast every time I saw her during the club season and when you play lock down defense on some of the top scorers in the country, I definitely notice. Long, athletic and filled with energy, she elevates on her jumper, think I saw the bottom of her shoe while I was taking a picture and scores in the paint around the rim
2021
Paige Bradley & Rori Harmon (passing)Rori Harmon-5’6 G- I’m not going to brag about calling her a #D1Lock in the 4th or 5th grade, her game speaks for itself and what a package she’s put together as I get dizzy watching her at times. The crossover, the srep back, the between the legs, all have been mastered but I knew that patented pull-up, at times leaning, makes her very hard to contain especially since she sees the floor well. Body control only adds fuel to the fire
Paige Bradley-6’0 G- already committed to Texas, Paige is one of those players that smoothly gets things done and before you know it, she’s put up numbers. It’s always good to blend in without blending in and her consistency over the summer was impressive to say the least as I watched her score multiple ways and just have a knack for being at the right places on the court at the right time
Aniyah Johnson-6’3 P- one thing is for certain, she will not be outworked and with size and strength, that special not only at this level but the next one. Her progression has been steady on both ends, she finishes extremely strong after contact, rebounds and defends well in the paint but her defense on the perimeter has taken off as well as her facing the basket to score
Jada MaloneJada Malone-6’4 F- I can’t say I called her a #D1Lock in elementary school, I was purchasing Girl Scout cookies from her and wasn’t sure if she’d even play yet when she told me I’d have to get them from someone else because she was going to focus on basketball, all bets were off. Played up and learned, now she’s doing the teaching with her size and agility to step out and shoot the mid to long and defend outside makes her a legitimate not just a back to the basket #BCSLock
Gia Adams-5’6 G- will enter Texas Top 100 2021 with a bang and I’m overly impressed at what she’s become. She was always good and I knew she had next level potential but she’s a legitimate D1 prospect. Explosive both off the dribble and with her jumper, mid to long range and her athleticism and court sense enables her to play the passing lane to perfection
Ashlyn JonesAshlyn Jones-6’0 G- I have and still do truly enjoy watching her enjoy herself on the court and her status was more than legitimized because she’s one of the ones that I just knew had big time potential. Ice in the clutch yet get hers in the flow and her athletic ability is second to none as she glides to the basket or just jumps over defenders with the mid to long range over and over
Da’Necia Trusty-6’0 F- if I gave a Most Improved Award from last season to this one, she’d definitely be a finalist. Loved her energy and athleticism when I first saw her as she was the first one down or the first one back so many times and when you know what you’re looking at, you expect certain things to happen and it has. She exploded over the club season, fined tuned offensive game and is a nightmare on defense
Bre’Yon White-6’0 F- slashes to the basket effortlessly from the wing and finishes strongly over and over, with contact was what I locked her at D1 for a couple of years ago. Size, athleticism, unselfish, all are good bases and her mindset is to be the best she can be, it shows on the court and her jumper is smooth as silk, fluid and accurate as well as her ability to create her shot. She defends and rebounds so I guess that helps, yep it does
