Lilly Stoddard of Crown Point High School and Mila Reynolds of South Bend’s Washington High School have flip-flopped spots on this list this time around for a couple of key reasons. First, while Mila has proven to be a very talented & skillful player, and one of my favorites to watch in this class, she has missed significant time while recovering from hip surgery. She could very well come back and prove to be the same talent, and I hope she does, but I would like to see her again first since it has been such a long time. Additionally, Lilly has improved a great deal over the last few months, and I think it comes down to a combination of added strength, continued skill development, and building confidence through a successful Summer season. She is so skillful and athletic for her size, and as she continues getting stronger, it’s only going to make her that much more difficult for opponents to defend.
There aren’t many traditional back-to-the-basket posts in this 2022 class, but Taylor Singer of Gibson Southern High School and Mykayla Moran of Hamilton Heights High School have a great deal of upside and recruiting interest. Both need continued work on their skillsets and on becoming much more instinctual once they catch the ball, but both have strong frames, broad shoulders, length, and solid all-around athleticism. Taylor is probably a little more versatile right now and somewhat comfortable in the mid-post and short-corners, while Mykayla loves to bury people around the block and finish over them. Both will be recruited because of their size, but both could significantly move up the rankings if they really work to develop their skill packages.
Westfield is currently enjoying a stretch with really good size in their program, and it feels like Madison Kerrigan is still a little under the radar. She has actually already picked up Division-I interst/offers, and she has nice upside to her game, but I don’t feel like I hear her name spread as widely as some other prospects. She is a long, wiry strong, and somewhat athletic forward. She is very good in the mid-post and has a nice-looking jumper that extends to near the 3-point line. She plays with a good motor, she’ll play physical and rebound, and she has some versatility as well. With a key injury to another one of their bigs, look for Madi to possibly have a big opportunity during the 2019-2020 season on a good Westfield team.
Jozee Rhodes of Plainfield High School managed 9.5 points and 5.2 rebounds per game as a Varsity Freshman before severely injuring her knee after playing in just 13 contests for the Quakers. Recently on social media I saw some posts welcoming her back to action, so that is exciting, because I think she does some really nice things on the basketball floor. She is fairly strong for her age, she’s a solid all-around athlete, she can be physical and play inside, she’s really good in the mid-post, but she also has a nice skillset and a solid handle for a power forward. She can even bring it up on occasion in transition. It will still likely be after Christmas before she looks 100% like herself again, but it’s definitely a boost for Plainfield if they have her available at the beginning of the season.
