Underwood, like the “deviled ham” spread her skillset throughout the event, and her cleverness on both ends is part of it. She plays solid “on the ball” defense, understands how to beat the defender to the spot, forces into the trap as well as pick up their dribble, but guess what else she does, she plays the passing lane, which I love seeing. She also rebounds and uses her athleticism on both ends, scores off the dribble, and has good body control after contact

Underwood made one of my Tip Sheets playing on the PGH Circuit over a year ago, see evaluation here, and I was excited to see her growth, both on and off the court. She stood out in the HOTSHOT competition, yet during the 5 on 5 games, she showed her “shot was hot” as she was dropping it from NBA range. She also used her athleticism on both ends of the court. Her defense both in the set and transition looked good, so did her court vision and scoring off the dribble

was a top shooter in the 14U division, consistently making shots with a high degree of difficulty and range. Addison’s “shotfidence” (shot confidence) is that of a practiced pro. A missed shot is just a clap and back to it. Given the frequency with which she finds the bottom of the net, she knows that to hit the next shot, you have to be ready to take it—shooters shoot. She was also a lane-disrupting defender, reading the pass like a well-timed shot.

Underwood gave me the “on the ball” defense to help create turnovers on opening day and how well she saw the floor, either off the dribble or in transition on day 2 but one thing she gave me on both days was how well she shot the 3 ball. She did a good job creating her shot under pressure but she also showed she could “catch and shoot” it while being defended
