It’s going to be a big upcoming Winter for Ali Aguirre of Ankeny High School. Aguirre, the skilled CG standing at 6’1, was a secondary option last season as a Freshman because of their team’s upperclassmen leadership. That won’t be the case this Winter. This time around she will need to be their main producer on both sides if their group wants to be good once again. They bring in a new coach, with a great previous track record as a player so as long as everyone hops on board to have one common goal throughout the season, they should be just fine. In this Update Aguirre holds onto the #6 spot in this Class. She has had a respectable AAU so far moving into July and I’m sure there is still a lot more to come before summer comes to an end.

We had the chance to see glimpses out of Ali Aguirre last Winter but this season it’s going to be on a completely new level. Aguirre is going to be looked to as Producer #1 for the Hawks. She will be their life line on the offensive side of things with her ability to shoot, drive, and score at the bucket through/over contact. Last Winter we saw her more in a passive, off the ball type role because they had their star, Jayla Williams, but this season will be much different. Someone is going to need to step up in their new system wit their new coach and that player will be Aguirre. There is no question in my mind. If she can take things slowly and put the team on her back, they should be a tough group to beat but we will see. Their schedule usually isn’t for the faint of heart so they need to worry about going 1-0 each game and everything else will play itself out.

Ankeny got their day started offensively with Ali Aguirre Ali Aguirre 6'1" | CG Ankeny | 2029 State IA scoring some buckets near the hoop and then working out from there. Aguirre’s mixture of size and feel for the game stood out as a determine factor throughout the entire duration of this battle. She posted her matchups near the bucket for simple finishes through contact, she stepped out to screen and pass, and she rebounded on both ends at a seemingly high rate. Aguirre was more of a factor in the first half than in the second but that’s something she will learn from as she gets older. She was only a Freshman season so I’m sure she will return even better as a Sophomore after another off-season of work.

Some might call it crazy but Ali Aguirre Ali Aguirre 6'1" | CG Ankeny | 2029 State IA is going to be the biggest “x-factor” for this group in the grand scheme of things as we move forward. When Aguirre can take pressure off Williams, it’s noteworthy. Those little breaks are what help Williams gather her strength throughout the duration of an entire contest as she is her team’s offensive and defensive specialist. Aguirre took care of business and started this game out on fire from deep on O, hitting her first two attempts from the outside in the first quarter. From there, the Hawks did whatever they wanted on that side of the ball. Aguirre was getting to the lane off of baseline takes from the corner, she was hitting open jumpers when defenders would sag off, she would post up smaller mismatches when those opportunities presented themselves, and she got to the foul line a decent amount demonstrating that she is not afraid of the contact. The more efficient that Aguirre can play, the better for the Hawks. If she can do what she did last night, who knows how far this team will go.

Another hooper with a superior mixture of size and skill is Ali Aguirre Ali Aguirre 6'1" | CG Ankeny | 2029 State IA of Ankeny High School and All Iowa Attack EYBL AAU. Aguirre comes into her Freshman season as a 6’1 handful. She is currently a mismatch problem for opposing teams when used in the correct ways by her coaching staff. Whenever you have a bigger and more physical or athletic player, most coaches just shove them into the Post, ultimately hindering their evolution as a future college prospect. Offensively, Aguirre can dominate down low and she should be used in those ways when applicable but she can also step out to screen and seal to the hoop or she can pop for an open look with her jumper when she has space. When you combined all that and understand that this is only a Freshman, you start to see the promise moving into the future and that’s why Aguirre sits at #2 in this Update.

There is a lot of question with Ali Aguirre Ali Aguirre 6'1" | CG Ankeny | 2029 State IA but there is also a lot of promise while looking toward the next couple of years for Ankeny High School. Aguirre is a mismatch waiting to happen with her size and guard-like skill level. She isn’t completely a Guard and she isn’t complete a Forward, she sits right in-between but that leaves a lot of room for possibilities in the future. She should be used as a 3, 4, and even 5-type nightmare for opposing squads if their Guards take care of business per usual.

, she should step onto the Varsity floor and make an instant impact this Winter with her Ankeny squad. Aguirre has size, agile movement, coordination, and physicality. Not to mention, she possesses an ample amount of skill on both sides of the basketball. She has the ability to impact any contest at a high rate because of her natural build, along with her soft touch, and situational awareness. We should get our first look at Aguirre in a Hawks uniform this next week. If she proves to be someone that can back all the hype, then Ankeny will have another star on their hands for years to come. If you have been watching the All Iowa Attack EYBL programs the past couple of years out of Des Moines then you know all about CG/SF – Ali Aguirre Ali Aguirre 6'1" | CG Ankeny | 2029 State IA . Aguirre has fantastic size, a guard-like skill set, all while being efficient in everything she is attempting to do. From what I’ve seen first hand, Aguirre uses her size to beat her opponents with a natural mismatch near the paint. If that doesn’t work, she is skilled enough to step out and hit pull ups in the catch-and-shoot game, creating a tough mismatch situation for anyone trying to guard her. This 2029 Class is a lot of projection at this moment but over-time, Aguirre will have a chance to show everyone what she is really all about. As a freshman, she will make an instant impact with her Ankeny program and that could be enough to get them to the State Tournament this Winter. We will just have to wait and see though.

I am very interested in Ali Aguirre Ali Aguirre 6'1" | CG Ankeny | 2029 State IA and what she is going to be able to do on the Varsity floor as a Freshman with her Ankeny High School team. Aguirre is one of those that should receive Varsity minutes right away with her mixture of height, her guard like skill-set, and her athletic ability. On the AAU floor over the years Aguirre has been a force and even saying that might be an understatement. She is usually getting buckets every which way offensively, while being a sound defender at the same time. When it’s this early in someone’s career, you never know what might happen ultimately. If Aguirre becomes what everyone thinks she can be, it’s going to be special to see unfold these next four years.
