Expert Analysis
Jeremy Brooks | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Soft touch, situational awareness of the catch and dribble, sticky defense. These are all terms you could use to describe Anna Latham of Mason City High School and Air Minnesota AAU. Latham knows how to use her angles to get down hill on an opponent and from there she knows if she should shoot it herself with a midrange floater or if she should pass it to someone else for an assist. If you look at Air Minnesota’s system they like to spread the floor with their guard play and work off of each other’s cutting actions. If that’s still the case for this Spring and Summer than Latham is in good hands. She will be able to make the most of her opportunities, she just needs to stay focused.

in a different light over the next few months on the road with her new AAU team in Air Minnesota. Latham has natural touch and feel for the game. She is more situationally aware than most and that plays to her advantage in a big way. When high school prospects can put their opponents in compromising situations, they stand out as being someone who might be able to do some things at a high rate at the next level. We see that ability out of Latham. She uses angles once she gets down hill really well and she knows how to use her body in the lane to create contact, leading to free throw attempts a majority of the time. With the free flow system that Air Minnesota plays with on offense guards like Latham tend to thrive so I’m sure that is going to be the case once again over the next couple of months.

. Lathan, a CG/SG, can get hot in a hurry from deep, she has some experienced ability to take her defender off of the dribble if need be, and she takes easy buckets when they are given to her at the rim. Defensively, she is someone that is willing to switch onto a smaller or bigger player in any situation, giving it her all in those specific situations. For Mason City, Latham will be a name we constantly bring up over the rest of her high school career. She set a solid foundation in place last Winter with her place and now she is ready to build on that moving forwards.

of Mason City could spread her wings and really take over as the leader for her Riverhawks program. Latham stepped onto the Varsity floor as Freshman and did a solid job of holding her own. She was a top three producer on her team at the end of the season in a few categories because of her mixture of a high motor, effort, and basic skill. Latham really is going to have chance to show out as a top prospect in her conference this season as well if she does things correctly and takes her time. That’s why she falls into this spot moving forward.

of Mason City High School. Latham is going to be her team’s main producer for the next three years and she is more than ready. This is someone that has shown time and time again that she can produce on any floor, against any level of competition. It’s obviously still early on in her career but at this pace, she is going to finish off her high school days as a top producer not only on her own team, but throughout the entire state of Iowa. Her natural competitive drive is one of the highest I’ve seen from someone at this age level and I can’t wait to see how that plays this upcoming season.
