Expert Analysis
Ally McGinnis | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
After carving out a key role at Elk River in the high school season, Klein has been a glue player for the Minnesota Freeze 2027 squad this spring. The 5’10 wing has a strong build with ample length, allowing her to slide to the forward position when needed. On the defensive end, Ava is vocal in help-side, calling out screens for her teammates out on the perimeter. She also keeps her head on a swivel, protects the rim well, and boxes out hard, fighting for rebounds around the rim. On one possession in Sunday’s matchup against the Minnesota Stars , Klein used her active hands to get a deflection, hustled for the loose ball, and found her teammate streaking up the floor, getting an assist on the fast break layup.

Klein displayed a great deal of versatility on Sunday. The lanky 5’10 forward played on the perimeter, as well as in the high and low post, and was effective in each area. On drives to the basket Ava absorbed massive amounts of contact from the defense, yet still managed to finish at the rim at a high rate. On the defensive end the Elk River junior uses her length to her advantage, protecting the rim like a middle blocker guards the volleyball net. Following a strong summer with the Freeze, Klein looks ready for a big season at Elk River.

Klein is a 5’10 wing who does it all with effort and grit. Long and athletic, she plays inside and out – slashing hard to the rim, finishing through contact, and knocking down perimeter shots with growing confidence. She’s assertive, vocal, and always in motion, cutting off the ball, tracking down rebounds, and distributing with vision. Klein isn’t a racehorse, but she’s efficient and disruptive from start to finish. Her defensive energy stands out, and her big motor makes her the kind of player who can tilt a game simply by refusing to stop.

Not only does she have excellent post skills, this young lady also has good court vision and is able to distribute the ball for an easier shot. Long and athletic with the ability to play inside or out. Slashes very well to the rim and finish strong.
