Expert Analysis
Cedric Cobb | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Every contender needs a floor general who understands the moment. Carranza, the senior point guard for the Jaguars, steadies the ship. She makes sure everything is set — offensively and defensively. She communicates, and she gets the team into action. She knows when to slow it down and when to push. You don’t always see her impact in the box score, but you feel it in the flow of the game.

Carranza showed exactly what you want from a senior floor leader. Against Sunrise Mountain, she ran the show with efficiency and composure. She shared the ball, kept everyone organized, and stepped up as a scorer when the moment called for it. Knocked down shots in rhythm and never forced the action. She is a high-IQ guard who understands how to manage a game.

Carranza is the definition of steady. She’s not going to wow you with flash, but she wins basketball games with her composure and consistency. Her experience is evident in the way she reads the floor, controls the tempo, and keeps her team locked in. She’s a winner through and through — the type of player every coach trusts in late-game situations.

is another player that is flying somewhat under the radar. I have seen her play several times and she is a Top Tier player that has tremendous upside. I see her as a Shooting Guard on the next level. She has excellent form and technique on her jump shot, and she is a 3 level scorer. She does a nice job of positioning herself for open looks and she hits with high efficiency. She is an excellent ball handler, so she can play the point as well and she is terrific at handling the ball in press situations. You can tell that she is the daughter of a coach (Canyon View Head Coach Desirae Carranza), because she displays poise and experience under duress. She is a leader on the floor and she is battle tested having been a part of two consecutive 5A State Championships. Her recruiting is heating up and 2025/26 could be a breakout year for her.

had an excellent showing at the Showcase. She is a highly skilled point guard that is an excellent ball handler especially in pressure situations. She is a terrific distributor, getting her teammates open looks at the right time. She is a very good shooter and a 3 level scorer. She can drive the ball well and she is a very good defender. She has a very high basketball IQ and she is a calming influence on the floor for her teammates. She will be one of the top point guards in the state this season in my opinion.

is a very solid Combo Guard who is a good shooter and ball handler. Her most impressive asset is her poise and her ability to stay calm under pressure. She is the daughter of Canyon View Head Coach Desirae Carranza, and she is like an extension of the coach on the floor. She will definitely play on the next level.

Carranza is coming off an injury, but the junior should be back to business as usual. She is accustomed to being the one that steadies the ship when things aren’t going how they should for the Lady Jags.

Carranza is our eighth-ranked point guard in the class of 2026 and comes in at number 54 overall in our rankings. The 5’7″ point out of Canyon View is poised for a breakout season.
In 11 games as a sophomore during the 23-24 season, Carranza posted 10.2 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 2.4 APG, and 2.4 SPG. She has a career 3.36 Ast:TO ratio and has 49 deflections in 32 games played in her young career.
Her all-around game will be one to watch this season as she enters year three.
