Cumbie perfectly fits what 4A Daniel is looking to get accomplished. The Lions may not be the flashiest of teams, but they are certainly one of the more dangerous. Cumbie’s Lions were ranked fourth in the most recent 4A coaches’ poll. She has averaged 13.3 points and 2.9 steals per game. The only contest the Lions have dropped, as of this writing, was at the Red Raiders Thanksgiving Invitational – hosted by 5A Division 2 Greenville – where Daniel was on the wrong end of a 54-53 decision to one of the toughest 5A Division 1 outs in the state in Byrnes.

The first game on the six-game card for She Got Next Saturday featured an entertaining contest between Cumbie’s 4A Daniel team and 3A St. Joseph’s Catholic. The final score was 52-49 in the Lions’ favor, and they needed every one of Cumbie’s 22 points to stave off a furious Knights comeback bid. Out of the 22 she cored, 15 occurred in the first half of play. Cumbie established herself early and often, allowing her solid defense to translate into offense – a good bit of which happened via buckets in transition. She is one of three seniors on this season’s Lions team.

Statements can be made early in a season – and one was made by the Lions of 4A Daniel as they romped to a 64-14 victory over 5A Division 1 Wade Hampton. Cumbie was a leader of the Lions efforts as she tallied 16 points. She would have had more but given Daniel’s margin of victory, she had plenty of time to rest. When she was not resting, Cumbie was making plays – including showcasing her skills as a ball-handler, connecting on 3-pointers and drawing contact which allowed her to get to the free throw line. Daniel will once again be a tough out for many an opponent in 2025-26.

Cumbie had, arguably, her best season to date in 2024-25 for a Daniel team whose move from 3A competition to 4A play was nothing short of seamless. The Lions concluded its season with a 24-5 record, a perfect 12-0 showing in its region and a deep run in last season’s 4A state tournament. This was in large part because of Cumbie’s heroics. Daniel’s talented two guard played in 27 games last season for the Lions and averaged 10.4 points, three rebounds and 1.6 steals per contest. Her AAU career has included a stint with Carolina Clutch and her athletic career has included a stint on the softball diamond.
