About Braelyn
Expert Analysis
Sam Duren | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Blackwill did a little bit of everything in a back and forth Saturday morning contest. She’s rugged and tough off the dribble, with no backdown while playing against 2027 prospects. Brings a similar mentality on the defensive end. The Kansas rising sophomore also importantly can fill it up from distance. Looked smooth and confident when draining a couple threes, that were a step or two beyond the line. Tied her high school’s record for threes made in a game back in February with 6. Based on Sunday morning, more records and accolades should follow for the gritty shooter.

. A breakout performer in her debut high school season, Blackwill has quickly proven herself to be one of the premier scorers in Class 1A—and a name to watch in the coming years. Averaging 15.0 points per game across 25 contests, Blackwill’s production has been nothing short of elite. For a freshman, those numbers are rare. For a player on a small-school roster in a loaded Western Kansas landscape, they’re game-changing. Her shot-making ability spans all three levels. Blackwill is confident attacking off the dribble, isn’t afraid to pull up from midrange, and finishes well through contact at the rim. Her footwork, body control, and ability to read the defense allow her to score even when defenses are keyed in on stopping her.

I saw Blackwill compete last year for the Missouri Phenom team based out of Topeka. I have heard through the grapevine, that this team is breaking up and several of their players are going to try out to play for MoKan. She is a talented scorer and helped guide Quinter to the Class 1A DI State Tournament. Quinter finished fourth in that tournament going 1-2. She scored 47 total points over three games in the tournament played in Dodge City. I am interested to see where she lands during the club campaign and hope to watch her compete.

The Class of 2028 will be ranked for the first time in November. Currenlty there is a Watch List consisting of 28 athletes. I plan on ranking at least 50 athletes during the first round of rankings. Blackwill is a guard who traveled over 250 miles to compete with the Missouri Phenom’s Topeka-area club team. That alone should alert everyone to the seriousness with which she takes the sport of basketball. She is a fast guard, who plays solid defense and can shoot from deep. Blackwill and the rest of the class of 2029 will have to return to PGH Kansas in November to see where they land in the initial rankings.
