About Brooklyn
Expert Analysis
Grant McGinnis | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Helgeson is a remarkably complete guard given that she’s only entering her sophomore season. The Brandon Valley standout is a legitimate three-level scorer who attacks defenses with confidence, whether she’s getting downhill to the rim, pulling up in the mid-range or stretching the floor from beyond the arc. She protects the basketball just as you’d want, rarely forces the action and consistently makes sound decisions with a point guard’s mentality. Helgeson plays off two feet – one of the more valuable but less-appreciated assets a player can have. Brooklyn also absorbs contact well and has the body control to finish difficult plays around the basket. Add in her defensive toughness and ability to lock down opposing ball handlers, and it’s easy to see why her long-term upside is appealing.

Brooklyn was a member of the All Expo Team. She does a lot of things right on the court. Her ability to score at 3 levels is apparent, however her best game is getting to the rim, creating contact, and finishing. She can also pull up and hit a midi on demand. She pulled out a bump euro in 5 on 5 that was incredible!

Brooklyn was another one that started out slow but came on in a big way to close out the day. She was virtually unguardable in her last game.
Several finishes at the rim through contact
Used a bump euro to score and kept her balance through it all
Quick first step helps her get to the rim or get a defender out of shape
