Callan had an outstanding senior season to finish an excellent high school career by winning a state championship, something she and Murray County had come close but failed to do in the last few years. Her play was fantastic, but Ledford impressed me most this season by leading her young, tough, and talented teammates. Those girls would run through a wall for her and their admiration for her was obvious. Ledford has been a standout in AA for a long time and she will be very good in college. We will see over the next few years, but I believe Callan, along with her sister Blaklee, have awoken a sleeping giant in girls basketball in the mountains of North Georgia. She has been a player those kids and others around the state look up to. She will have a lot of folks from the state following her the next four years. The only thing left for her to do is make a decision on what school she will attend and who she will play for in college.

After a nightmarish start to her state championship debut last year, Ledford was on point from the opening tip leading the Indians to a state title, beating Hardaway 51-48 in a rematch of last year. Ledford shot 7-16 from the field including 3-8 from deep and 2-4 from the line to compile 19 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals. Known for her toughness in the paint, Callan was able to spread the floor and attack Hardaway efficiently from the perimeter as she identified mismatches. She thrived in transition on downhill drives and was opportunistic defensively converting turnovers into points. Callan is a hot commodity among D-III programs with D-II, NAIA and JUCO schools also offering.

Ledford and Murray County were able to avenge last year’s loss to Hardaway with a close, but impressive win in the rematch in this year’s AA state championship game. Ledford moves constantly and with purpose, with and without the ball, wearing down defenses and taking advantage of scoring opportunities when they present themselves. She has been the focus of every defense Murray has played the last two to three years and at this point can pick apart just about any defense. Offensively, Callan has a lot in her arsenal and has sneaky strength and athleticism to go with her good height/length.She is one of the very best unsigned seniors in Georgia and she will make whatever program she chooses better. Ledford finished her last high school game as a state champion and MVP after scoring 19 points on 7-16 shooting including three made three pointers.

Callan posted another very impressive stat line in the win finishing the game with 27 points, six rebounds and six steals. She is without a doubt one of the very best unsigned seniors in Georgia. Callan scored off the dribble as well as in catch and shoot situations. She is very crafty with the ball and got around her defender multiple times scoring either at the rim or pulling up for a short jumper, under control, avoiding block/charge situations. She has been very good for a long time and has learned to play with extra defensive attention and pressure. She is efficient and direct with the ball. Callan knows what she wants to do after surveying the floor and does not hesitate to attack the openings. She is a very athletic player as well. Several schools have shown interest and some have extended offers. This time next week her attention will shift to choosing where she will play the next four years in college. For now, the only thing on her mind is going out a state champion.

Callan was knocking down shots in a blow out win, posting 10 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal. Ledford is a gritty competitor that does what it takes to win. She’s typically a great rebounder for her size, using her strength and nose for the ball to beat bigger opponents to 50/50 chances. Callan finishes with both hands in traffic and on Saturday, got better arc on her jump shot to be able to cash in from the perimeter.

High compete level. Does the little things well. Uses both hands when attacking the basket. Shoots the three and is an opportunistic defender. Finishes well through contact. Well-rounded player without one true elite skill.

Callan’s breakout season closed with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Ledford attacked from all three levels. The sophomore hit a pair of threes, banked in a floater and a mid-range jumper and connected on two pull-ups. Defensively, Ledford drew a charge.

Ledford is a shooter that can do it all. A player that plays both ends of the floor but also knows how to take what the defense gives her. Her toughness on the offensive end allows her to get to the basket and score. A player that wont be denied a chance to get her shot off. High IQ guard that sees the floor well and gets her teammates involved. A player whose size is her advantage as she is able to rebound and finish in the paint. A player to watch this upcoming season.
