When taking on the defending 5A Division 1 champions, one must come up with a method of containing the Bengals’ star veteran who can play at either the two or the three. Thomas concluded her Tuesday evening – and her 2025 calendar year – with 12 points against 5A Division 1 host Clover en route to the 51-42 victory. It does not matter where she is on the floor – when Thomas has the ball in her hands, she is a threat to place crooked numbers on the scoreboard. Thomas also leads Blythewood’s rebounding efforts and can make things happen with her defense and passing abilities as well.

The girls’ schedule concluded when 5A Division 1 Blythewood and 4A North Augusta met in a contest of defending champions. At first, it appeared that Saturday would be an off night for Thomas but one had to figure she would get going. She did – and even though the Bengals were on the receiving end of the 59-51 decision to the Yellow Jackets, Thomas’ 19 points allowed Blythewood to rally and nearly pull off a miraculous come-from-behind win. Thomas will particularly make her presence known from behind the arc as she splashed home four of her attempts from 3-point range. She typically plays as either a three or a two with the ball-handling skills of a point guard.

One has to expect that whenever Thomas’ sneakers make contact with the basketball court that plenty of plays will be made. In many ways, the Southeast Elite Showcase is serving as a tune-up for the 2025-26 season and she is proving she is more than ready for her swan song season at defending 5A Division 1 champion Blythewood. Her scoring and rebounding may get headlines, underrated aspects of her game include how she makes plays on defense, her transition playmaking, her court awareness and how she attracts attention from defenses which can open up her teammates to make plays.

What does one do after experiencing championship euphoria? Attempt to experience that same euphoria once again. That is the objective for Thomas who understands that as defending 5A Division 1 champions, Blythewood will get everyone’s best shot. She also recently landed an offer from North Greenville University. One major reason why the Bengals finally arrived at the 5A Division 1 summit last season was Thomas putting up some of her best statistical numbers. In 29 games sporting Blythewood’s colors, Thomas averaged 23.1 points, 11.1 rebounds and three steals per contest. It was only four years ago that this team was winless.

Blythewood being at the top of the 5A Division 1 food chain means the Bengals will enter 2025-26 for the first time as the hunted instead of the hunters. Thomas displayed at the Southeast Elite Showcase Session 2 that she is ready to get everyone else’s best by giving them her best. If she is in the interior, she will corral her own rebounds and not give up on an opportunity until it turns into two points or a chance at the free throw line. A midrange jumper is also part of her offensive repertoire and the high basketball IQ she plays with enables her to understand when to score and when to distribute. Thomas averaged a double-double of 23.1 points, 11.1 rebounds plus three steals last season for the Bengals.
