I gave Eden Huckaby Eden Huckaby 5'6" | SF/SG Walnut Grove | 2030 TX the nickname “The Air Traffic Controller.” To be completely honest, most showcases aren’t packed with wall-to-wall action, and I was in a daze until I heard Huckaby’s voice lighting up the court. “Screen right, Screen Left, I got your back, backside!” Very few players communicate competently during showcase games, but Huckaby took it to an entirely different level, dictating the offensive and defensive flow with absolute poise. Her high basketball IQ and elite communication make it easy to see her on the sidelines coaching after her playing days.

On the floor, Huckaby showed tight ball-handling, an excellent understanding of the give-and-go game, and great court awareness. Offensively, she was an efficient scorer, knocking down a smooth three-pointer and capping off a stellar showcase performance with a beautiful reverse layup. Heads up to the club teams in Dallas: she is an unattached player who demonstrates that the best ability is availability. She will play any position on the court and would be an immediate asset to a structured program.

Huckaby played with confidence, cutting backdoor on several occasions and receiving passes for scores. Once she receives the ball on the move, she wastes zero time, finishing smoothly around the rim for efficient two-point buckets. She rounds out her game with solid, reliable defense.

Huckaby had me wanting to go back and read “East of Eden” but Steinbeck has been placed on hold, which is something defenders had problems trying to do- hold her. I saw her multiple times, and initially she created her shot with ease and dropped the jumper, yet her “catch and shoot” from deep turned up, while she also scored off the dribble to keep the defender guessing
