Expert Analysis
Evan Bell | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Ella was a consistent Top Performer with Mystics on the PGH Circuit and delivered a complete performance at the Freshman Showcase. She has the length, athleticism, instincts, and two-way playmaking abilities that project to the higher levels as a guard prospect. Ella is disruptive on the defensive end, an active rebounder, has the dribble burst to drive by defenders, and shows off her athleticism when finishing in traffic. Her defensive impact, smooth shooting mechanics, hustle, and high ceiling left an impression on PGH Ohio scout Angie Saiter. Those qualities, in addition to Ella’s aggressive offensive rebounding, elusive ball-handling, and quickness, separated her as a top prospect in this class during the PGH College Tour at Northwood. She’ll be an immediate impact player for East Lansing.

Ella’s energy, playmaking, and ability to contribute in several areas earned her a spot on my Second Team All-Showcase Team at the PGH Michigan Freshman Showcase. During 3v3 action, the Team 1 guard showed her ability to create off the bounce, using a quick first step to get past her defender before extending for a tough scoop finish at the rim. Her playmaking really came through during 5v5, where she consistently played with her head up and displayed excellent court vision, delivering well-timed passes and creating opportunities for her teammates. Ella was effective putting pressure on the defense off the dribble, turning the corner quickly and getting downhill into the paint. She brought that same energy to the defensive end, competing on every possession and hitting the floor multiple times for loose balls. Ella also made an impact on the glass from the guard position, tracking down rebounds and staying active on the offensive boards, where she converted several second-chance opportunities into putback buckets. Her combination of vision, quickness, effort, rebounding, and ability to create for others made her one of my selections for the Second Team All-Showcase Team.

Her quick first step allowed her to turn the corner and get downhill in a hurry. Defensively, she competed hard and was scrappy, hitting the floor multiple times for loose balls. Ella also rebounded well from the guard position and stayed active on the offensive glass, converting several putback opportunities around the rim.

Ella showed a nice blend of quickness, ball skills, and scoring ability at the WMD Open Gym. The guard used her shiftiness to keep defenders off balance, including a tough spin move in the lane that created a quality scoring opportunity. She also finished with a smooth reverse layup and knocked down a three-pointer to show she can score from the perimeter. In transition, Ella pushed the pace with her head up and showed good awareness of the floor while looking for opportunities to create. She also had active hands defensively, making her a player who could contribute on both ends.

Ella, a guard for Mystics, continues to impress while competing up a division at the MI College Tour III Grand Valley. She used her quick first step to get by defenders and consistently attack the paint. Ella also showed confidence from the perimeter, knocking down shots from beyond the arc, while adding an and-one finish through contact. Even from the guard position, she battled hard on the glass and came away with rebounds in traffic. Her ability to change speeds with the ball made her difficult to contain off the dribble, and she also brought strong defensive energy throughout the day.

Oh I see you hustling and getting back on defense and breaking up the pass to stop the fast break lay up! Opponents better keep that ball protected around her- Ella has active hands, and she’s a hungry defender that’s always on guard to pick pockets and score! Strong shooting mechanics and a high ceiling! (Below with ball, Featured Photo)

Ella looks like a prospect who has what it takes to be a top-tier prospect in this class. After seeing her play for the first time during the PGH MI College Tour, she immediately grabbed my attention. Her athleticism, length as a guard, elusive ball-handling, sharp quickness, balance, confidence, and shooting mechanics from three-point range left a lasting impression. She’s an aggressive offensive rebounder, creates space off the dribble, and handles the ball effectively using both hands. Ella penetrated off the dribble, collapsed the defense, then dished out assists to teammates. She scored a strong and-one through contact, then completed the three-point play at the line. She crashed the glass to secure offensive rebounds and scored putbacks. Ella works hard to apply pressure on the defensive end, and I’m excited to see her more this spring.
