quieted the West Salem doubters (including me) on Saturday night after leading the No. 9 Titans over No. 8 Jesuit in the Round of 16. The Portland State commit is a two-way player and three-level scorer who combined for 37 points and 16 rebounds in two playoff games to lead the Titans to the state tournament, where they will meet No. 1 Tualatin on Thursday.

The Portland State commit’s game looks college-ready as she approaches her senior season with West Salem. Zuniga’s all-around versatility allows her to dominate a 3-on-3 environment in several ways, but her preferred method is attacking the rack with a controlled ferocity. She also regularly stepped out for 15-foot jumpers and post hooks. Her body language indicates that she is a mature leader and is used to the pressure of being a primary offensive creator. She seemed to have a lot of fun playing alongside her sister Sophia, and it translated to easy buckets — her team won both of its games on the day by 10 and 6 points.

was on my MVP watch after her first game. She’s a dawg, she never gives up, and she’s gets points when it matters most. In West Salem’s first game of the season, junior forward Zuniga scored 12 points, including 5 crucial ones in the fourth quarter from two strong drives to the basket, and one through contact and the foul. Zuniga’s late-game two-versus-one transition bounce-pass assist was the dagger against Barlow. In the final game against South Medford, Zuniga fought to the very end and led all scorers with 21 points, 10 of which came in the fourth quarter, including two 3-pointers. Many of Zuniga’s points came from strong drives down the middle of the key as she tucked the ball like a running back to drive the paint and bang in buckets cleanly off the glass. Zuniga is also a good defender, making steals and blocking shots, and she has a next-level physicality to her game.

, you will want to change that. Zuniga is an incredible talent, and as a member of the class of 2026, she will only continue to get better over the next two years. Although technically a shooting forward, Zuniga has demonstrated that she can play any position on the court for her West Salem team during the high school season. She is a natural scorer who seems to always find a way to put the ball in the basket, even when opposing teams focus their entire defense on her. She also is an incredible leader on the court for her age. Zuniga is playing for ABA’s 17U team this weekend as they head to Phoenix.

is also among the statistical leaders in points and rebounds per game through the first half of the season, with 19.5 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. The forward has showed out with some massive performances against some of the Titans’ fiercest competitors, particularly at the POA Holiday Classic. With her combination of size, skill, and athleticism, there really is very little that Zuniga can’t do, from going to work in the post to running the offense to shooting the lights out from deep all while playing tough on the defensive end.

continues to dazzle in her sophomore season, proving to everyone at the POA Holiday Classic why she is not only one of the best sophomores in the state, but one of the best players hands down. She had not one, not two, but three outstanding performances in the three games played this weekend. In the Titans’ opening game, a loss to Roosevelt (WA), Zuniga had a 29-point, 12-rebound double-double, followed by 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 block on the road to a big victory over Grants Pass, and she finished the tournament strong with 19 points, 9 boards, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block in a hard-fought loss to Springfield. West Salem is a young squad with zero seniors and only one junior on the roster. They have had a very challenging preseason schedule that has given them a lot of opportunities to grow and improve which they will certainly reap the benefits from as they head into conference play. And with Zuniga at the helm, they will be playing some basketball that you will not want to miss.

Zuniga promptly made her mark as one of the best freshmen in the state a year ago. In her first year, she quickly earned her place as one of West Salem’s go-to players as she consistently put up impressive stat lines like her 22 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, and 2 blocks against Sprague. She was the only freshman in the Central Valley Conference to earn first team all-league and also got the nod for honorable mention all-state from the OBCA. As seen by that stat line, Zuniga is incredibly versatile: a gifted scorer with great court vision and is not afraid to crash the boards or dig in on the defensive end. With some of her fellow starters graduated and with a year under her belt, she will be one to watch for this season.
