Rebounds Per Game: 12.8

I don’t think it’s surprising to anyone that Gentry Thummel is leading the JR EYBL in Rebounds Per Game at the 14U level. Thummel comes in at 6’2, making her one of the tallest prospects in the Country for her age level at this position. Not only is she tall, she pairs that with some impressive strength, that most can’t deal with under the hoop. She has a great feel for the game already, she has some nice touch on the ball, and her footwork is slowly coming along as she continues to get older. Thummel is going to come into Iowa at the Varsity level this Winter and she is going to be one of the state’s best rebounding forces so it wouldn’t shock me if some college interest came to follow, even at this young of an age. You know what they always say, “You can’t teach height.”

I think what needs to be said about Gentry Thummel Gentry Thummel 6'2" | C Van Meter | 2030 IA is the fact that at the Varsity level this Winter, she might be one of the most productive players at the Center position. Thummel currently plays for AIA EYBL during AAU season and how they run their systems doesn’t necessarily work for Thummel’s play-style. From what I’ve witnessed she is told to stand under the hoop, box out and rebound, and if any missed shots happen to fall to her offensively than she can put it back in for a simple basket. There really isn’t an offense where she works with her back to the basket or anything like that, which is shocking when you know that she stands between 6’2 and 6’3 but that’s how this program plays and they have a lot of success because of it so to each their own. As for Thummel, we will be hearing her name multiple times this Winter. She might even help her team to another State appearance in the end but we will see.

The tallest and most powerful prospect that this 2030 Class has to offer is Gentry Thummel of Van Meter High School. Thummel will walk into her Freshman year above 6’2 with the muscle mass to pair along with it. At her height she is someone that happens to be extremely coordinated, she possesses a soft touch on the ball with her back to the basket or from 15FT away, she can spread the floor and hit shots off the catch from three point lane, and she is a defender that you definitely have to know about if you are playing against her team. She knows to keep an eye on help side and her height can somewhat be deceiving when you get into the middle of the lane. I expect this to be someone that moves around the Top Five for the 2030 Class throughout her career. She is going to put up some impressive numbers this Winter and that will be only the tip of the iceberg.
