She help lead her team into the finals last season and this year she rose to the occasion in the Final game: three “killer threes” and impressive defensive play. Her speed and quickness on defense allowed her to close out on shots and prevent drives to the rim. Marke’s team had a plus 12 point differential when she was on the floor.

Markes rises to the occasion in the playoffs, and it’s apparent that she raises her game during the crucial moment. Last season, in the final four in Lakeland, Markes filled the lanes and got her team back in the game after trailing for most of the first three quarters, Markes has the ability to fill the lane or pick up and shoot the long ball while in transition.

Jayie Markes stood out with great defense last year in the semifinals in Lakeland. Markes utilized quickness, speed, and great anticipation during the most pressure packed moments in the state finals.  She can spark a team in the scoring department with her ability to shoot the three and score in transition. Her team has a lot of offensive fire power, including Markes, but her defense could prove to be the difference as the playoff games get more difficult.

Jatia Markes came to play some defense and she certainly made an impression in a short period of time.  Markes played with some incredible speed and quickness, often beating the offensive player to the spot.  She performed well against the top ball handlers in the building.

Defensively,  she already has a State Final 4 resume.  Her defense was key to Bloomingdale making it past Ponte Vedra to get to the State Finals.   Markes can lock it down on defense with quick feet and active hands.  Her athleticism and speed jump off the page, and so does her confidence. Her offensive skills were nice, too. She has a nice three-point jumper, and she can get to the rim. She showed nice court vision and was very good at dishing to the open teammate, pushing the pace, and advancing the ball vertically to get easy baskets. She hit the mark in a lot of categories and was one exciting player to watch.

Offensively, she handles the ball well, thrives under pressure, and loves when defenses play physically, using it to her advantage by getting to her spot and scoring. She plays low with the ball, makes smart decisions, and can shoot the three-ball well, whether off the catch or the dribble. She’s also a solid guard in pick-and-roll situations, both as a scoring threat and knowing when to pass her teammates open.

On the defensive end, Markes makes her presence known by applying relentless pressure and staying vocal, constantly communicating with her teammates—calling out screens and cutters. A true leader on defense, Jatia plays like every play is her last. Whether her team is winning or losing, her intensity never wavers.
