About Kamara

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am a physical playing guard who can run point, shooting guard, or a power forward position. I am able to switch from attacking the basket, shooting, and posting up to score. I have high IQ and am able to see the next play with my vision. I move without the ball to place myself in scoring positions as well as having position to get rebounds. I play unselfish and work to get my whole team involved

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am fairly quiet off the court, but on the court I am very vocal. I am a focused and serious person most of the time, but once I get to know you and am comfortable, I love talking, telling jokes, and sharing stories. I am a hard working person and get along well with others. I am very coachable, and enjoy being part of a team family.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I have been in student council, received all A’s awards, honor roll, Honors ELA and Math, and am taking Geometry as a Freshman. I also received student of the month honors, awards for academic excellence, and was part of a mentor program at school working with the youth.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have developed leadership from being captain on my sports teams, part of student council, part of my school mentorship for youth program, and volunteering at food drives, participating in packing meals for hungry children, and taking on group leader roles in classroom projects.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I have faced countless years of discrimination based on my race. I live in a predominantly white population, and have had some students say racially motivated comments towards me. I am biracial-black and white. I also am raised by a single mom, as my dad does not want to be part of my life. This has been hard to deal with but thankfully my mom and I have a really supportive family.

Kamara has length, athleticism, a high motor, and skill that immediately stands out when she steps onto the court. She showed her confidence on the perimeter, draining threes from the corner and wing. Kamara sprinted back in transition to intercept a pass, was active in the passing lanes, and moved her feet at maximum effort to stop dribble penetration. She handled the ball comfortably with both hands and distributed passes into the post for assists. Kamara was an impact player for Michigan Storm Elite 15U at the PGH MI College Tour III.

Kamara started the day off right during the 3v3 segment. She grabbed an aggressive offensive rebound to score a put-back, then backed down her defender to score a strong and-one layup. Kamara continued to contribute during 5v5 games for Team 4. She crashed the boards hard to secure an offensive rebound and finished the put-back. Kamara showed athleticism, physicality, and a competitive edge at the Freshman Showcase–she’s going to be an exciting addition to the Clare program this winter.
