Expert Analysis
Evan Bell | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Kara buried a mid-range jumper to close out the first quarter and scored a clean catch and finish layup after rolling hard to the basket to end the second. She used textbook wall-up technique to block a shot attempt and worked hard to secure rebounds in the paint. Kara ripped the ball across her face, drove by her defender, and earned a trip to the line; she converted both free throws. Kara poured in eight points, grabbed five rebounds, and blocked two shots for Michigan Center in the win.

“7.6 ppg, 7 rpg, 2.6 bpg. 6’1 and a strong post presence on both ends of the floor. Aggressive and strong, not afraid to be physical.”

Kara had a great day for Michigan Center at the Jackson Summer League. Her aggressive presence stood out on both ends of the court. Kara used her length to force missed shots and create steals on defense. She converted layups with both hands around the basket and knocked down perimeter jumpers. Kara was very physical rebounding the ball and is a great pickup for the Trine Women’s Basketball program.

Straub always impresses with her defense and did once again. She plays like a veteran on that end of the floor. What stood out was her ability to see and read the offense and jump passing lanes.

Kara made the most of her ball touches on the offensive end and provided Team 8 a spark on the defensive end at The Expo on Saturday. Kara elevated to high point a defensive rebound and secured many boards during the day. She showed her confidence pushing the ball with few dribbles in transition and delivered crisp passes to teammates running up the wings. Kara sealed her defender for an entry pass to draw a foul and converted her free throw. She blocked multiple shots in the paint and played unselfish basketball. Kara encouraged teammates, and found open teammates with her passes.

Straub was impressive as always and her ball handling definitely stood out. She’s quite frankly just more athletic than most on her way to the rim. Straub was hard to handle when she got downhill with the ball.

Kara will be a post prospect to keep your eyes on at The Expo on Saturday. She has good footwork to score in the paint but also has the outside range to hit 3s. Kara blocks shots inside and secures rebounds while finding open teammates passing out of the high post. I expect Kara to be one of the best forwards at the event.

Straub has a reputation as an early bird when it comes to getting to the gym. At any event, she’s usually one of the first faces that I see. Straub walks in with a quiet confidence that carries over to the basketball court. She’s a smooth forward that can attack from a variety of spots on the floor. Straub is just the type of program player that coaches at the next level look for.

has been an impressive forward prospect all year and looked the part once again today at the Siena Heights prospect camp. She finished countless put backs inside off of passes and offensive rebounds. Kara defends well in help or on the ball in the low post, controlling her body to contest shots without fouling. She has an efficient mid-range jumper and presents herself for entry passes when sealing or cutting through the paint. Kara is a forward all coaches should be watching for this travel season.
