Expert Analysis
Evan Bell | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Keira graduates as the most accomplished basketball player in Saline history, and her school records are extensive to say the least! She is 2nd in Scoring for a Career (approaching 1500 career points), 1st in 3’s in a Game (8 – 4 times), 1st in 3’s in a Season (100 last year), 1st in 3’s in a Career (317 and counting), 1st in 3PT% (49% last year), 1st in assists in a game (10 – 3 times), 2nd in assists in a season (133+), 1st in career assists (333), 1st in number of career wins (78). Keira is only the 2nd player in school history to earn 1st Team All-State. Her MHSAA State records include: 1st in D1 history with 100 3s in a season and 1st in MHSAA History, regardless of class, for made 3s in a career with 317+. One of my most memorable moments as a scout was seeing Keira break the MHSAA D1 single-season record for made threes in person during her junior year at Howell. Keira is one of only five D1 girls in the top 30 for career threes. She represents three of the five single-season three-point D1 MHSAA record holders (sophomore, junior, and senior years). Saline won the SEC Red Championship with an 11-1 record (19-3 overall). Keira contributed in every statistical category for the Hornets, averaging 15.5 points, 6.2 assists, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game. She shot an efficient 41% from beyond the arc, making 79 threes, and had a 58% EFG%. Keira averaged 19 points per game as a junior and has adapted her game to fit Saline’s scheme. Averaging 6 assists per game speaks volumes to her dynamic impact as an elite scorer and passer. With a triple-threat of 1450+ career points, 300+ assists, and 300+ made threes, Keira has accomplished a remarkable feat. Shot efficiency breaks down as shot volume increases, and Keira’s numbers defy that algorithm. Her 179/399 3PT attempts for a 45% 3PT% is unheard of. Keira won Prep Girls Hoops Player of the Week as a junior and a senior, breaking MHSAA records on both occasions. She committed to Wayne State early as a Sophomore and will graduate with more than 79 career wins. Keira has the stats to support the claim that she is the greatest shooter in MHSAA history.

Keira set the MHSAA record for three-pointers made in a season by a D1 player last year with 100. Last week, she became the most accomplished three-point shooter in MHSAA history, regardless of division. Keira passed the previous record of 311 and now stands at 317 career three-pointers heading into her final postseason tournament. Keira also owns the Saline school record for career assists with 333, averaging 6.2 per game. She scored 18 points (4/8 from 3PT) with seven assists, five rebounds, and two steals in a 62-37 win at Ann Arbor Huron. Keira posted 15 points (5/10 from 3PT), five assists, and three steals in a 52-31 win vs. Brighton. The mark of an elite shooter is efficiency, and she shot 50% from beyond the arc in both games. Keira is the PGH x Foster Swift Sports Player of the Week for Feb. 22nd-28th.

Keira started the game hot from beyond the arc and continued to strike all game for the Hornets. She buried a smooth wing triple off the dribble and drained three more. Keira worked hard to secure rebounds, distributed the ball effectively to teammates, and drove with determination through the teeth of the defense to score a strong and-one layup with her left. She led the team with 19 points (4 3PT), grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out three assists.

Keira established herself as one of the elite perimeter threats in Michigan last season, lighting it up from beyond the arc at an incredible rate. The junior sharpshooter knocked down 100 three-pointers while shooting an astounding 48 percent from deep — the fourth-highest single-season total in state history. Already sitting 13th all-time with 235 career threes, she’s within striking distance of the state record of 311. Beyond her shooting, Keira also showcased her all-around game, averaging 19.6 points, 4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.1 steals per contest.

Their games really compliment each other and they can play off each other well. Keira and Halle are both two way players that will set the tone for us at the defensive end of the court as well. And, both have significantly upped their games in preparation for this season after putting in a lot of work.

Keira achieved two special milestones for Saline last week. She crossed the 1,000-point threshold with 27 points, five rebounds, and three assists during a 68-29 win against Ann Arbor Huron. Keira followed that up with 25 points (6/10 3PT), two rebounds, and two assists against Howell on Friday to break the D1 single-season 3PT scoring record. Her methodical shooting mechanics, quick release, and balance were outstanding throughout the game, but when Keira fired a left-handed hammer pass to the corner on a baseline drive, that was equally impressive. She is 83 of 176 (47%) from 3-point range this season and 227 of 576 (39%) in her career. Keira is an elite shooter because, despite the mass volume, she remains highly efficient. That’s what separates a real sniper from a volume-reliant scorer: field goal percentage. Keira will be remembered as one of the most prolific shooters in MHSAA history and is our Feb. 16th-22nd Player of the Week.

Roehm was terrific with the Mystics at the Select Super Showcase. I’m really excited to see how her improvements translate to high school ball. Roehm really showed off her improved ball handling and decision making these will make her even more dangerous than she already was.

It really started last season. I saw plenty of Saline games and was impressed with how much they trusted Roehm with the ball, outside of being the shooter that she’s always been. I think she’s going to have the ball in her hands a lot this season and we may be seeing the development of her into a lead guard. In a way, I’d already label her as a CG.
