Recently committing to Saginaw Valley for soccer, she continues to shine in basketball as a fearless, high-motor guard who influences every possession. Melanie has been a two-way impact player for Midland Dow since her freshman year. She gave me fits as an opposing high school coach and her demeanor on the court is what you want in a lead guard. Melanie plays with endless energy and effort on the court. She is tough as nails, active on defense, a determined driver, efficient finisher, and excellent facilitator. She stood out at our Expo two years ago and we’d be excited to see her back again.

Melanie bounced back from a difficult injury to have another SVL All-Conference season. Her toughness, passing abilities, shifty dribbling, and finishing at the rim will be exciting to watch again on the circuit with Mystics-S40 this spring.

earned recognition with her two-way play for Mystics 2026-S40 at The Clash. She showed her outside shooting ability by knocking down a contested corner 3. Melanie elevated inside to finish strong off two; she had me saying “wow” when she put her defender in jail on a hostage dribble, beat the help using smooth strides on a euro-step, then finished with a layup high off the glass.

has the scrappy tenacity coaches love to see on defense and the tools on offense needed to play basketball at the next level. My favorite play from her today at Siena Heights was when Melanie stopped a drive with her body and ripped the ball on her way to the floor. She is TOUGH. Melanie knocked down a wing 3 then burst through the defense with a crossover and left-handed finish. She is an outstanding PG who will be exciting to see this travel season.

Dow advanced to the regional championship with a 60-42 win against Traverse City Central. In this game it became apparent that Kolnitys just wouldn’t be denied. She took over the game, scoring 23 points in the second half. Her confidence grew as the game went on and she just wasn’t going to let Dow’s season end. She ended up with 30 points on the night.

has been the consistent most valuable two way player for Midland Dow since she arrived as a Freshman last season. She earned all-conference first team honors while averaging 11 pts, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals per game. Her tenacious on ball defense and effective passing makes her a prototypical point guard. She has the downhill quickness to score inside and will knock down outside shots as well. Melanie is going to be a key factor in how far the Chargers go this postseason.
