Van Wie comes from an athletic background, and it shows in her approach on both ends of the floor. She brings the effort and mindset every coach wants on their roster. After playing a key role on a Badger Large Conference championship team as a sophomore, she looks ready to take on even more responsibility. With another year of experience under her belt, look for Van Wie to contend for all-conference honors and help lead the Warriors on a run in March.

The Waunakee wing/forward is finishing up her first grassroots season with Wisconsin Lakers , and has shown impressive flashes in the games I’ve seen her play. Van Wie has always played with an edge to her game that I’ve appreciated. However, she’s shown more on the offensive end than she’s shown the past few years. She looks more comfortable with the ball in her hands and has been a more consistent threat on that end of the floor. I’m eager to see where she is on the offensive of the floor in the next 12 months.

The Waunakee native has improved tenfold since I first saw her play a few years ago. Her skill set has grown, and she’s worked hard at improving her game on the offensive end of the floor. She looked solid in the skills work, and her athleticism made her a headache for players in her group to work against. She keeps getting better and takes pride in her development, and it shows in the results over the last year.

The part of Van Wie’s game that will help her excel at the next level the most is the edge she brings to the floor. She has improved her offensive skill set and hasn’t been afraid to make mistakes, which I love, and it will be a bonus at the next level. The way she competes defensively and her versatility on that end of the floor will make her a player who’s hard to keep off the floor. Her energy is infectious, and she will find ways to help any team win games.

The Waunakee wing is a player who has improved in each of her first few seasons at the high school level. Van Wie has gained confidence, will get to her spots, and is a threat on that end of the floor. However, what separates her from everyone in her class is the fire and energy she brings to the floor. The passion she plays with is palpable, and she plays desperately. She competes defensivley and seems like a perfectionist. She takes pride in her defense and will make anyone work for whatever they get offensively.

As talented as the top of the 2028 class is, Van Wie may be the kid I enjoy watching the most in this class. She doesn’t need the ball to be effective and comes off the bench for Waunakee, but if you could bottle up the energy she plays with, you could provide power to the entire state. She’s electric. Van Wie doesn’t know how to not play at 100 miles per hour. She attacks the glass like her life depends on it, defends the ball like she needs air to breathe, and looks desperate to force turnovers in Wauankee’s press. She’s been a low-volume offensive threat due to the talent around her, but there’s more to her offensive game.
