Montini has reloaded this year with some strong young talent, and Dye is near the front, if not at the front, of that group. She is a bucket, and at the end of the day, you need players who can put points on the board. She’ll bring a different style of scoring that Montini hasn’t had in a while, and seeing how the coaching staff utilizes her within their system should be fun to watch. If she earns that starting role and the production follows, she could find herself in the All State conversation, especially with how tough their conference is.

Dye plays the game at an aggressive pace, and if you’re guarding her, you have to be able to move laterally without losing balance. She is shifty, quick, and gets to her spots in a hurry. The main thing that stood out throughout the event was her consistency as the aggressor on the floor, whether on offense or defense. She didn’t pick and choose when to apply that pressure, and that made her impact feel constant. Montini hasn’t had a scoring point guard with this level of skill in some years, but they will give her the structure to keep developing. As she continues to learn how to score within the flow of the game, she is going to become a major problem, and her size doesn’t take away from how she plays because her pace, toughness, and skill allow her to create advantages.

Twitchy, elusive ball-handling, dynamic scorer, effective facilitator, and disruptive on defense were adjectives I’d use to describe Khyan’s game at the Illinois Freshman Showcase. She turned in a complete performance for Team Two that separated her throughout the event. She grabbed rebounds, facilitated the rock, and wreaked havoc with her in-your-face ball pressure. Khyan attacked hard downhill on a middle drive, landed with a jump stop, created space with a pivot, then converted a tough and-one floater with her off hand through contact. She completed the three-point play at the line. Khyan used a quick crossover dribble, then shifted into high gear to escape full-court pressure, accelerated through a gap, and earned another trip to the line. She added a clip to the highlight reel with a filthy between-the-legs crossover step-back three from the wing and converted back-to-back free throws after drawing a foul in transition by driving to the rim. Khyan made notable plays on the defensive end as well. She anticipated a pass on the perimeter, jumped in front to cause a deflection, scooped up the loose ball, then raced to the rim for a fast break finish with her left. Her quick hands poked out the ball for another steal up top, then she zipped an entry pass to a teammate inside on the next possession for an assist.

Montini will always be home to some of the best guards in Illinois and to come out of Illinois, and they’ve just added another name to that list. Dye will be a key piece for the future of this program, and the majority of her impact now will be on both ends of the floor, especially on offense. Her size doesn’t push her away from dealing with or seeking contact, and when she gets to the rim, it’s usually a finish. Keep an eye on Khyan as time goes on.

Dye has been the talk of Team Evans over these past couple of events, and when you see her play, you understand why. She is a highlight reel waiting to happen, and she does it all without much reaction. Defensively, she is a lockdown player and has no problem causing issues on that end. On the offensive side, you see flashes of a recent Whitney Young graduate. The handle is tight, the creativity is high, and her ability to create or find angles is there too. Super athletic and very agile with the basketball in her hands. Able to maneuver her way to the rim with authority. Good complete ball player.
