Laila plays with so much energy and maturity! She knocked down some huge 3’s to get the team back in the game! Beautiful rainbow stroke from deep, love how she distributes the basketball, and my goodness that crossover! She’s heading for the University of New Mexico! (Featured Photo)

Lawrence Central have two Nationally ranked forwards in the Lampley sisters (below), but they also have Laila, who is also a high-level prospect. She is strong, compact, but quick and athletic. She can consistently knock down shots with range, but she almost prefers to play the distributor role at times, and she is one of the most accurate passers I have seen in the girls’ game. Air pass, bounce pass, casual or intense, every one seems to set her teammates up in great positions to score. Oh yeah, and she can defend.

Laila got going early and often against the Wisconsin Flight in their Sunday afternoon EYBL matchup. The strong and athletic point guard has been entertaining to watch all Spring & Summer, and she excels as a pin-point passer who typically puts the ball right in her teammates’ shooting pocket. She was aggressive defensively, she created/collected a number of steals, plus she was able to get to the rim and score it inside. She recently gave a verbal commitment to the University of New Mexico.

I’ve commented before how great it is to see Laila healthy for the longest stretch of her high school career, and she continued to add to her solid Spring at the Top-100. She is strong, tough-nosed, but also athletic, and she has a nice all-around skillset. She was very good getting into the paint and drawing the defense, plus she knocked down a couple of perimeter jumpers when I saw her. She recently picked up an upper tier MAC offer, and she had the eyes of several Division-I schools on her Thursday afternoon.

After dealing with some significant injuries early in her high school career, Laila has been healthy for quite a while now, and the Indiana basketball world has had their hands full with her. She is strong, athletic, and very skilled. She can create offense for herself or others off the bounce, she has a nice jump-shot with some range, and she can sit down and defend with her quickness and physicality. She has really nice vision, and she’s just starting to see colleges line up again, as she has missed the past two grassroots seasons.
