About Laila

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

My gameplay style is well-rounded on both sides of the floor. I can rebound offensively and defensively, drive hard to the basket, and finish tough layups. I’m also consistent with mid-range and three-point shooting. I make smart passes, read the defense, stay active and look for open shots or driving opportunities. On defense, I stay locked in, pressuring the ball, and challenging shots.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

On the court, my mentality is all about being calm and determined. I stay calm, composed, and positive at all times even under pressure. I have the mindset of doing whatever it takes to help my team win if that’s hustling on defense, making the right passes, or hitting a big shot when needed.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am involved in my school's pottery club. I received honor roll awards during the 2024-2025 school year.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I’m always encouraging my teammates. My teammates can count on me to be reliable, whether it’s making the big play, picking someone up after a tough moment, or just needing someone to talk to. I’ve also learned the importance of working together and building strong, trusting relationships both on and off the court.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Yes, freshman year, at first I did not make the varsity team. It was upsetting after having played travel basketball since the 5th grade & hearing how skilled I was from many coaches that crossed my path who wanted me to attend their high schools for a spot on varsity. After continuing to train & work hard, trusting the process & staying mentally tough, my coach moved me up to varsity mid season.

What type of college are you looking for?

I would like like to attend a large university any where in the continental US that has strong academic programs especially in the areas of architecture and interior design. I like a campus that is inclusive and supports students being well rounded academically, socially and emotionally by encouraging extra-curricular activities through participation in sports and/or community engagement, etc.
