About Laila

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am a catch and shoot mostly. But, I play very unselfishly. I dribble the ball into defenders to kick out to teammates for the open shots or for an easy layup. I am a pass first, score later guard as well. I defend very well, whether that’s in a zone play or man to man. I play off the go and not forcing anything that’s not there. And I would say I’m very coachable.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

My personality is bubbly, funny, sarcastic & very blunt. My mentality is be the nail not the hammer. I try to secure my position on the court and start off fast, that way I don’t have to try to hard throughout the game to score a certain amount of points, have a certain amount of assist, steals & etc.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

No

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I had a summer job working with kids, which lead me to using my voice more & asserting my authority like I try to do on the court. I can tend to be the quiet and shy one or the loudest one, depending on where I am. But, I am working on always be the loudest and most comfortable person anyone can be around.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I struggled with the love of the game my sophomore year, which caused me to sit out for a year. I didn’t play for my school that year, but instead of giving up, I trained everyday and every week. For the entire school season, I was working on my craft whether that was in the weight room, on the court, my diet and my stamina. I played AAU that summer and now am playing my junior year at Riverdale.

What type of college are you looking for?

HBCU or any College that will give me a scholarship. Whether that’s for academics or basketball.
