Love Smith is going to be one of those special 2031’s that will see Varsity time this upcoming season at DSM Lincoln High School. To be honest – I expect Love Smith to start as an 8th grader within this program with the skill level she brings to the hardwood whenever she competes. Love Smith did a good job of showing us a little bit of everything during this Showcase. Offensively, she attacked multiple times from the outside, getting all the way to the bucket off the dribble for a different finish each time she got into the teeth of the defense. My advice to Love Smith about half way through this event was to keep it simple. When she sticks to one single move and uses her athletic ability to beat her matchups, no one is going to stay in front of her and that will apply this Winter as well. This is one of those top 2031’s in Iowa to keep an eye on as things move forward. She has shown a ton of promise so far and she is only going to get better with experience.

Laylani Love Smith is a name that we will hear for years to come at the Varsity level out of DSM. Love Smith is a talented Guard, who seems to be very talented for her Class/Age level throughout the state. She has everything a little more put together, per se, than most others her age and because of that – she is starting to see a lot of promise within this sport. This event is going to bring in the Top 10-15 2031’s in the state as a whole and I can’t wait to see how everyone matches up with each other. It is SUPER early right now within everyone’s career but by the looks of it – this Class might be the most talented we have had the last 10 years in Iowa, from top to bottom but that is still TBD so we will just have to wait and see. As for Love Smith though, she is going to be just fine on her own individual journey. She just needs to stick with it!

Right now she is a hooper out of the 2031 Class and she will be attending Lincoln High School out of DSM when she finally gets there in a few years. Love Smith is a pure PG. She knows pace of place, she has a tight handle, she knows how to create for those around her as her primary job on the hardwood, and she makes smart overall choices with the ball whenever its in her hands. It always helps when you have an older sister, who is also a baller. You work off of that growing up and usually you end up becoming better than them because of it. I think we will see that in this relationship overtime. The Love Smith sisters both know how to hoop right now and that’s not going to slow down anytime soon. They are only going to continue to get better with experience.
