Expert Analysis

It’s not shocking that Love Smith is competing her tail off on the road over the last few months. She is coming off of an impressive individual Freshman season as SE Polk and she has seemingly built off of that. Love Smith’s game is built on high energy. She is skilled in several ways on both sides of the ball but her energy is contagious to those around her. She gets everyone else fired up and that’s something you can’t teach. She is the type that loves to pick up her matchup in the full court for an entire game just to mess with her opponents mentally and she always shows a great attitude even when calls might not go her team’s way. If you are a coach, this is one you want on your team. She leaves it all out on the court and has several intangibles you could rave about while watching her compete.

Yasanna Love Smith competes for a competitive program out of Minnesota called the MN Metro Stars. She is coming off of a respectable Freshman campaign at SE Polk High School as their starting PG and she is looking to keep things moving over the next few months. Throughout the Winter Love Smith made smart and safe plays coming down the floor, getting better and better each time she took the court. She showed out on several occasions as a high level playmaker in the open court with her vision and ability to find her teammates in transition. Defensively, when she was aloud to let loose she caused some chaos as someone that knows how to stick to their matchup, no matter what is happening around her. This is a player that could have a chance to compete at a very high level one day Division wise if she continues to get better as she grows up.

Love Smith made the most of her Freshman season at Southeast Polk and now she is onto others things. This Spring she will be competing with the MN Metro Stars (Starks) team, showing her worth on the road every chance she gets. This program is one that is known for a number of reasons but mainly because they play some great team basketball as a whole within all of their age groups. Love Smith is a fast twitch PG, that can control the pace of play within a game. She is a pretty efficient scorer of the rock while also being a sound defender on that side of the ball. This Fall Love Smith will transfer and compete for DSM Lincoln High School. She should come in as one of their best overall prospects so I can’t wait to see how she makes do with that change of scenery within a new system. In this 2029 Class Update, Love Smith moves into the Top 15 at #13.

of SE Polk. Love Smith is still very early in her career but she shows great amounts of promise. She isn’t the tallest hooper but she makes up for that with her athleticism, speed, and aggressive nature. She understands how to attack an opponents hips off the dribble, making that opponent open up to the floor while getting past them into the teeth of the defense. Defensively, she causes a lot of trouble for some of her opponents with how determined she is with getting her hands on the basketball. She is relentless in her pursuit of chaos on the defensive side of things and that stands out to anyone that might be watching.

Yassanna Love Smith has been a standout for SE Polk this Winter at the Varsity level. Love Smith has a shifty handle, a smart head on her shoulders, she is very good at facilitating for others around her, and she is scrappy defensively. If you are looking for a real junk yard dawg as a prospect, look no further than Love Smith. She brings high energy to the floor and that’s contagious to those around her too. Love Smith should be staple of this group moving into the future. It looks like the coaching staff at SEP is already comfortable enough with letting her lead their offense so I don’t expect that to change anytime soon unless she switches programs.

played a competitive contest for her first game of Varsity basketball in this one. Love Smith is a fast reacting PG with good vision, a thorough handle, natural instincts, and a great feel for the PG position overall. She understands when to do what in different situations and that showed throughout the evening. Love Smith also demonstrated that she can score the rock when need be with a jumper or she can get into the lane for a little floater over the defense. This is someone that is going to be really good over her career if she keeps on working on her craft. She definitely showed a lot of promise tonight and it was noteworthy.
