About Lyla
Expert Analysis
Charles Foster | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Lyla’s performance justified her rise to No. 2 in the rankings. Her length and skill set project well, as she has the versatility to impact multiple positions on the floor without sacrificing effectiveness.
As Our Lady of Good Counsel High School’s primary ball handler, she controlled tempo and initiated offense with poise. In the first quarter, she shifted to the wing—a move that maximized her scoring ability. From that spot, she was at her best, knocking down three of four attempts from beyond the arc and adding two pull-up jumpers off the pick. The positional flexibility, combined with efficient shot-making, underscored why her stock continues to rise.

Lyla had the midrange game going early as everything she put up went through the net. She showed a nice touch on her shot letting the ball ride the rim with backspin and drop in. She scored 28 points in the game scoring every which way imaginable.

Lyla plays great on ball defense, which seem to be a philosophy with the Falcons. She plays a lot at the point showing that she is very comfortable around the perimeter. When she drives it gives smooth vibes of the “Ice Man” from back in the day. When it comes to the three pointer, she showed the range as that shot was dropping for her. At around six foot she has a very well rounded arsenal in her game.

Lyla, serving as the primary point guard, is something special to watch. Her height and court vision gives her the advantage to process the floor quickly and make sharp in-game decisions. In the Falcons’ home opener, she initiated a 3-on-1 break and capped it with a smooth no-look pass that set up an easy layup for her teammate. She added a quiet but efficient 14 points, guiding the offense with poise throughout the night.

Lyla has excellent size for a freshman and plays with a lot of confidence. She can play some point in a pinch and has a good shot from beyond the arc. She is an athlete that runs the floor the floor hard and gets down court in front of the defense for the catch and finish which I saw a couple of times during the day. I loved how she protected the ball on her drives in traffic then unwounded at the rim for the basket. She is a key piece to the Falcons elite freshman class that will be looking to make a WCAC run.

Lyla plays with a lot of emotion, impacting both ends of the floor. She handled the ball as the primary guard and remained composed under pressure. Though officially a small forward, she can play and guard across all positions. She has the ability to get to the basket in two dribbles. With a quick, reliable three-point shot, her energy on both ends makes her a player to watch night after night.
