Guards To See At The May Live Period

The May live period tips off this weekend with events showcasing talent from all across the country. It's an important evaluation period for prospects looking to get on recruiting radars, pick up college offers, and continue building momentum heading into July. Kentucky's backcourt talent will be well represented throughout the weekend. From score-first guards and floor generals to lockdown perimeter defenders, these prospects will have a chance to catch the eye of college coaches.   Here's a look at some 2027/2028 guards you should see during the May live period.    Makiyia is a lead guard you can trust with the ball in her hands because of her ability to run the offense and avoid turnovers. She makes smart decisions, reads defenses well, and plays with poise and control. A high-level facilitator, she makes life easier for her teammates while also being capable of asserting herself offensively when needed. Makiyia is also a strong perimeter defender as well. During her junior season, she averaged 11.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.   AAU Team: WV Thunder Smith S40   Next Stop: LIVE! at Lakepoint     Faith is a small but very shifty guard who changes pace quickly and has some serious handles that she uses to break down defenders off the bounce, creating opportunities for herself and others. She is an efficient scorer from the perimeter and a clever finisher around the rim. Faith averaged 10.7 points per game while posting efficient shooting splits of 48% from the field, 36% from three-point range, and 70% from the free-throw line. She does a great job putting the ball on the deck and making plays happen offensively. Adri is fast in transition, getting end-to-end quickly and keeping the defense on their heels. She also makes life difficult for opposing ball handlers with her ball pressure. Adri appeared in just 20 games during her junior season, but she is fully healthy and a full go this spring/summer running with [program_tooltip program_id='713436' first='Lady' last='Magic'] 17U.   AAU Team: [program_tooltip program_id='713436' first='Lady' last='Magic'] 17U   Next Stop: The Classic     Takenzie averaged 9.6 points per game for Manual last season and provides a vital two-way presence in the backcourt. She knows how to generate offense with the ball in her hands, does a great job scoring through contact, and finds creative ways to finish around the basket. Her outside shooting is streaky and her defense is superb. She can spot up and shoot, while also having enough speed and quickness to turn the corner and get to the rim. Taylor is a confident ball handler and a very good passer in her own right. She pushes the tempo well in transition, and majority of her steals turn into points the other way. She averaged 12.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, and her production was a key factor for Owensboro Catholic throughout the season.
