from Blackman High School has a great defensive skill set. She moves laterally extremely well down low. Because of this, she can stick with her defenders, and paired with her great timing, she generates shot blocks or contested shots often.
Okorie is also aggressive down low on offense and is good at maneuvering around defenders to put pressure on grabbing potential offensive rebounds. This same aggression also leads to put-back opportunities. For the Lady Blaze last season, she also showcased that she is a great screen setter.

Okorie has turned herself into a solid post ready for the next level. Defensively, she’s got a lot of tools. She’a got nice awareness, and stays connected by being a vocal leader. She’s a tremendous defensive rebound, and really get’s it at its peak. Offensively, she’s still developing a back to the basket game but she’s made great strides. Over powers opponents deep. Nice combination of size, skills, and athleticism.

It’s her time now. After waiting in the wings, it’s time Mariah to take her turn. This post player is a hustler first and foremost. She can be utilized in the screen game, but think of an old school post player who is scrappy as all get out. She gets the put backs. She’s tough on the interior. She is defensively sound. Blocking shots, getting rebounds, unleashing a type of physicality that other bigs hate to deal with. Last year she played as a role player but this year it’s her time to shine. This kid is solid and I expect her to come out the gates ready to help the Lady Blaze do something special this season.

The ’26 post has been waiting her turn at Blackman, and I have a feeling she’s about to jump onto the scene in a big way. She’s been dominant on the boards on both ends. Her footwork was impressive around the blocks, where she finished through contact. When she buries opponents deep, it’s simply done. She’s extremely strong, knows how to initiate contact to create space, and can score through contact.

, Blackman HS – Mariah’s ability to run the floor is incredible to watch. She can get the rebound on one end and be the first one down the court on the other. She’s improved a ton with her moves on the offensive end and is one of the better defenders in our area. Mariah will have a strong season on a loaded Blackman team.

Okorie is an old-school big that has a chance to be excellent. At 6’1, she’s already an elite rim protector and rebounder. Fantastic outlet passer. Crashes the offensive glass hard, creates extra possession and easy FGs. Runs the floor hard in transition using her athleticism as a weapon. What I love the most is her eventual switchability as a big. Has nice quickness, and can sit in a stance and stay in front of quicker players. Really takes pride in guarding both inside and out. She should play a role as the first big off the bench for a loaded Blackman team.
