McKenzie James is a PG with some really crafty and shifty moves off of two feet. James really wants to kill her opponents off the dribble going to the teeth of the defense for herself or for other open teammates around her. She does everything in general pretty well with the skill side of things, while having some better than average athletic ability. Defensively, she is hungry. She get into her opponents space and suffocates them slowly throughout. That helps her record a bunch of tips, steals, and deflections during her games. James is solid. She makes good choices and plays the right way, two things that could help her to the next level one day.

McKenzie James of Westview High School may be on the WL for her 2026 Class but don’t get it twisted, James is as good as they come defensively as she guards her position and she also demonstrates a solid mixture of a quick handle and athletic ability as well. James finished off her Sophomore season with Westview averaging just over 3 Steals Per Game. This number ranked her in the Top 3 in the state of Nebraska in Class A prospects, returning from a year ago. I think this is a prospect that is thoroughly underrated. Over the next two years she should pick up some offers from the collegiate level on this pace, she just needs to keep it rolling.

McKenzie James may not of seen the Varsity floor last season but I have a feeling that could change this Winter. James is solid prospect on the hardwood. She is a PG that stands at 5’4 with a smart head on her shoulders, with a high energy-type play style. She is someone that can get past her defenders in the blink of an eye with her fast first step down the floor or she can bring it back out and make a solid pass to someone that is open as her teams runs their offensive sets. Defensively, she brings some tenacity with her on ball pressure, usually making her opponents turn it over a time or two before a contest comes to an end. Westview will return a decent amount of their Varsity roster from a year ago so it’ll be interesting to see how much everyone see’s the floor. It’s going to be a hard rotation to play into but if they can do it smoothly, the results should follow.

When McKenzie James is stepping out and shooting the basketball with full confidence, she can make some crazy things happen. I’ve seen James compete live a few times and every time she seems to add to her game in little ways. She has a crazy ability to get hot from deep behind the three point line in the blink of an eye and I truly mean deep. I’ve seen her step up and knock down consistent volleyball line three pointers because no one was guarding her and she was in rhythm. She can do a handful of other positive things for her team like Rebound and creating havoc on defense but she is clearly at her best when she is believing in herself in any facet of the game.

. James works hard and never gives up on possessions. She is someone that has a versatile like game, where she can move between several different Guard spot on the court during any given moment. It doesn’t matter where she is at, she is always going to shine and that has been proven. Whether she is taking the high school floor or the AAU travel scene, she makes her mark on a contest with her effort alone. Not even mentioning the skill side of her abilities. It’ll be fun to see where James can take things moving forward. She has some promise, she just needs to see working on her craft. Something that could be said for anyone trying to be their best.
