Expert Analysis
Marissa Rimbert | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Understands passing angles and does a nice job delivering on-target lob passes to feed the post. A pest of a defender who stays active and competes for loose balls, helping create extra possessions for her team. Offensively, she showed three-point range and gets good elevation on her jumper. Brings a nice mix of court awareness, perimeter shooting, and hustle that allows her to impact the game in several areas.

Miyah plays with good patience and shows an understanding of how to use screens effectively to create advantages. Last year at the Freshman Showcase last year PGH Simmie Colson noted her ability to think the game (read evaluation here). She has shown improved confidence handling the ball, looking more comfortable creating off the dribble and making decisions with the ball in her hands. Does a nice job allowing the action to develop rather than rushing into her attack. Around the basket, she understands how to use the glass, finishing with a high release off the backboard to make difficult shots more manageable.

My PGH colleague Simmie Colson already noted Ellison’s IQ in a 3v3 evaluation here, but it bears repeating. For a freshman to conduct the offense with such poise alongside brand-new teammates is noteworthy. Her composure and decision-making set her apart and make her a standout at such an early stage. Also noteworthy, is the fact that Ellison will be in the mix in loose ball situations. She repeatedly used hustle plays to earn extra possessions for her team.

Ellison is one of those #sizedontmatter guards, and one more time, it doesn’t matter when you can play, and not only can she play, but she’s heady and thinks the game, which was apparent by her setting teammates up for easy shots. She also used the slight HEZ to attack and score, yet she created her shot and dropped the jumper, also dropped the “stop and pop”
