Expert Analysis

The senior floor general had to navigate early foul trouble, which limited her minutes in the first half. However, in the second half, she came back locked in and provided the leadership the Cougars needed to close the game. Mallory-Frias finished with 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals, showing her ability to impact the game even when her shot wasn’t falling consistently. Her defensive intensity and experience helped steady Kellis during key stretches.

to get going in the 5A State Championship game, but once she did, you could tell she was the best player on the floor. She earned the 5A Northwest Valley Player of the Year honors earlier this month, and she showed why especially in the 2nd half. She played more with the ball in her hand and she started to get her scoring going. She is a great shooter from all 3 levels and she is also a good facilitator. She makes good decisions with the ball, and when they needed her experience to finish the game off, she came through as she was the focal point of the offense late in the game.

Mallory is pure speed in transition. One of the quickest guards end-to-end in 4A, and she lives in attack mode. She collapses defenses with her ability to get downhill and finish or kick. When she’s dictating tempo, Kellis is tough to guard. Expect her to test North’s perimeter defense early and often.

Shanielle is a very talented player. I love that Shanielle competes and has a strong, confident drive to the basket. Shanielle plays hard and brings energy to the floor on every possession. Her aggressive style makes her disruptive and tough to guard. Overall, Shanielle plays with a high motor with a strong upside.

Mallory was the engine for Kellis all night. The quick senior guard poured in a game-high 25 points, scoring at all three levels—from finishes at the rim to floaters and deep threes. She constantly forced defensive adjustments and was difficult to contain.

“Jet quick” is the best way to describe Mallory. She’s electric with the ball in her hands and looks to push the pace every chance she gets. After leading Kellis to a strong run last season, she’s back with unfinished business. Her ability to break down defenses, get to the rim, and ignite her team’s offense makes her one of the most dynamic lead guards in the 2026 class.

Mallory has had a stellar high school career up until now, but she recently put it all together and began playing at a different level. Throughout the live periods, she balanced being a scorer and passer very well. She has interest from several schools heading into the fall.

Mallory played very well during the event. She’s always been very talented, but if she keeps playing with the pace and change of speed that she was during Lady X, it’s going to get tougher for opponents. She was scoring from all three levels and handing out assists.
