Expert Analysis
EJ Arocho | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
This might’ve been the strongest Sophie has looked! She alternated between the 3 and the 4. She played tough down low, showing off nice footwork and post moves. Looked comfortable shooting the short 10-12 foot jumper and attacking from the wing. Very agile; maintained energy and focus from beginning to end.

Smith brings fundamentals, coordination, soft touch on the ball, situational awareness of the game, and fantastic footwork to the floor. At this event, Smith was someone that had all of her abilities on full display for her Philly Rise EYBL program. When you consider everything I mentioned above and add in that she is 6’2 and works relentlessly in the post, you understand how productive she could be with other noteworthy athletes on the court with her. The state of New Jersey must be STACKED with talent because Smith coming in at #32 out of the 2026 Class after what I saw in Chicago is tough. She was truly one of the best Power Forwards that competed there on the EYBL Circuit and that is a hard complement to grab with there being over 7000+ players in attendance .

On a guard focused Shoreshots 2026 squad, Sophie finds ways to make her presence known. She has exceptional footwork and patience as an offensive presence when she gets the ball on the block and a nice touch on her turnaround jumper. She is comfortable stepping outside and putting the ball on the floor to get to the rim and she is getting more comfortable shooting with range. Sophie is very athletic and whether she is blocking shots on D or grabbing defensive rebounds, she is often one of the first players filling a lane and beating defenders up the court for an easy bucket. She attacks the offensive glass and powers back up. Appearing in 26 games and scoring over 100 points as a freshman for an outstanding Red Bank Catholic squad it shouldn’t be long before she’s putting up a nightly double double.

“That girl sure is special,” is a lot of what I heard from coaches, scouts and spectators alike. The weekend standout had a knack for getting to the rim at will; gliding across court like a gazelle and finishing strong though contact. Her length and ability to stretch the floor was the cause of many headaches and frustration time-outs. Defensively, she applied pressure and used her long reach to stifle, disrupt and attack the passing lanes. Sophie forced a considerable amount of turnovers which lead to many points scored in transition as a result. When all was said and done, her impact on both ends was significantly felt. She had her way with opponents as they pretty much had no solution on how to stop her. With top-tier footwork, tremendous strength and an ever-evolving two-way game, she is a D1 lock in my book.

Sophie’s game continues to grow. She uses her size to keep you on her back in the post. If she does get you on her back in the post, she is going to use a strong right-hand finish to score over you. She attacks the offensive glass with strong hands and powers up on the put backs. With a highly talented NJ Shoreshots 2026 HGSL team around her, she understands when to dive to the block to take advantage of easy layups off a dish from driving teammates. She is a strong rim runner in transition and a solid interior passer when the doubles come. Defensively she uses great length to block shots and understands interior help defense. Part of a loaded Red Bank Catholic freshman class this group will be fun to watch the next 3 years.

Sophie is quickly making her case for one of the best players in New Jersey’s Class of 2026. She came up with a clutch rejection under the basket to lead the Shoreshots to victory over a very tough ESBF squad. Her mobility was impressive, as was her footwork and physicality in the post. She demanded the ball in the low block and aggressively muscled up for 2. All indications point to not only a terrific summer on the circuit, but also a sensational sophomore season with Red Bank Catholic! Her game is evolving right before our very eyes.
