Jersey Live: Friday's Phenomenal Fifteen

Rutgers Prep was the host site today for the lone scholastic live period of the summer! College coaches from major programs such as Clemson, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech and Michigan packed the sidelines to watch top tier talent from New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania do battle. The following individuals stood out as the best players I got eyes on today:    She had the 3 ball clicking today; her bread & butter shot. One of few players who can make the transition 3 look like a high percentage shot. Quick snap release. Locked in two-way game; played 94 feet and was able to both execute on offense and defend from the opponent's basket & back to her own. She applied suffocating pressure up near the perimeter and at times, left the ball-handler totally stuck, unable to move or make a play.     This might've been the strongest Sophie has looked! She alternated between the 3 and the 4. She played tough down low, showing off nice footwork and post moves. Looked comfortable shooting the short 10-12 foot jumper and attacking from the wing. Very agile; maintained energy and focus from beginning to end.     Scorching 3 ball; very vocal calling for it around the arc. Quick getting to her spots and maintaining a "shooters shoot" mentality throughout. She read the defense well to anticipate and exploit weaknesses & lags in coverage. Excellent manipulation with the ball in her hands.     Long-range sniper. She was in attack-mode on offense all day. Attacked the middle-third of the court and put pressure on transition defense. Pushed the ball after pulling down a rebound; showed off speed and an energized motor. She got UP for o-boards; strong rebounding from the guard spot.     Effective baby hook over her right shoulder. Aware of her size and and great job playing to her strengths. She alternated between the guard and forward positions and played them well. She was quick to establish position on defense and anchor the paint; remained vertical with her feet planted when blocking shots.     She brought her two-way game today! Automatic behind the arc. Rock solid defending; quick hands and sharp anticipation converted defense to offense. A bolt in transition; high-level finisher through contact on the drive.     Sharpshooter; one of the most automatic 3-point shooters I saw today. None of her shots were rushed; very patient on offense and moved the ball supremely well. She kept integrity on defense to be disruptive and get stops; interfered with passing lanes to disrupt the flow of offense.     Lissy utilized her size in a number of ways which paid dividends for SJV. Clean ball movement; able to see & fire off passes over the defense. Converted backdoor feeds; on one impressive possession, she executed a sharp cut into a reverse layup. Not afraid to shoot the ball; scores at all three levels.     Gigi's got the goods! Impressive efficiency on the pull-up middy. Electric getting downhill; shake-and-bake on the defender to get her going the wrong way and sink the 15-footer or take it to the cup. She played with patience and control. No matter the score, she looked unfazed; kept her game face on from the first whistle to the last.     Dangerous lefty. She oozed confidence and is surely developing a versatile offensive bag with the ability to be a consistent 3-level scorer. Very effective and pretty Euro. Big time on the boards. Played inside-out and did whatever she could to put her team in a winning position.     Explosive off the bounce! Ankle-breaking handles which staggered defenders and created ample space to create. She was able to withstand contact on the drive for the hoop & harm. Off-the-charts athleticism and bounce. Clutch in crunch time; nailed a corner 3 (plus the foul) with time winding down to give DePaul the come-from-behind win vs Old Tappan. Talent and poise far beyond her years.     High-level execution running the point. Her head was constantly on a swivel, scanning to facilitate. Very selfless, pass-first mentality. Physical on the drive; bounced off contact and still managed to finish around the rim at a high clip. Sharp basketball acumen and a strong competitive nature.     Tough as nails! She made difficult shots and found almost impossible angles on layups; made off-balance shots look easy! Battled through a ton of contact on the drive. She matched the opponents' physicality and upped the ante as the game vs Archbishop Carroll wore on.     Her size allowed her to see over the defense on traps and find open teammates to keep the play alive. She looked really good converting drop-off passes around the basket. Confident popping the short jumper and stretching out to the perimeter. Fluid movement and coordination. Very versatile offensive weapons for the Argos.     Julia is next-level ready! Ultra impressive inside-out game; fought through the double-team in the post. Comfortable range; stretched the floor wonderfully to knock down deep daggers. High IQ player; she understands that on every touch, she's going to draw a lot of attention from the defense; she's able to create and make plays regardless. High percentage free-throw shooter who gets to the line a lot! She iced the win vs Red Bank Catholic with two clutch free throws. She's the total package!
