About Stella
Expert Analysis
Byron Xerxes Livsey | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
The BYU commit made her presence known in Game 1 of the state tournament and put on a complete show. In Game 2, early foul trouble took away the chance for another high scoring performance. However, with Stella being team first, it did not affect the energy she brought when she was on the floor. She continued to make smart plays, whether it was for herself or for those around her. Over the course of four years, she has played multiple roles, always making an impact. BYU is getting a player who can be the future of their program down the road. | Tournament Average 18.5ppg, 4.5rebs

Since her freshman year, Stella has been a key figure in the Nazareth game plan, and in the last couple of years, she has truly become the focal point of the program. Her game is simple but effective in every way. Defensively, she made her mark just as well as she does on the offensive side, staying active in the passing lanes and taking the right amount of risks. | 30 pts, 6 stls, 5 rebs

Sakalas just makes everything look easy. Her work on the court looks effortless. Iron sharpens iron and if you play on the Nazareth team, you are meant for greatness-she helps the players around her get better. Scoring (while she is really good at that) isn’t her only strength, a rebound doesn’t get past her hands when she is in the paint. Her physical presence is a menace for her opponents.

The interesting thing about Sakalas is that she has had the best overall basketball situation for growth and development, for both her AAU and high school situations. From an AAU standpoint, Stella was not the main focus, but her role as a complementary piece was more than impactful. It showed coaches that she can play a similar role if she ended up at a high major, and what her beig the focal point for Naz over the past couple of seasons has shown her ability to be the go-to player on the court. In both situations and currently.. Stella has shown how she can be dominant in both roles. This is what translates to college.

Sakalas finished the night with 17 points, but those 17 were especially significant as they pushed her past the 1,000 career points mark—a hell of milestone, particularly because she’s been on a team that has consistently been state-bound since her freshman year. These aren’t just empty points; they’ve been key in two deep state runs, including one that ended with a state title.

After a strong ending to the regular season, Sakalas carried that energy into the state finals with a solid outing of 3-6 beyond the arc and 5-8 on the night. On the defensive side of the ball she was impactful as well. 2 blocks, and a steal to cap off the win against WV.
