Martin’s production on the boards is enough to draw attention, the freshman concluded her initial season within the top-45 among all athletes and 7th within 5A for rebounds per game. Once the shot goes up, she is quick to create advantageous positions, willing to be physical to take away space. Following offensive rebounds, Martin is especially quick getting the ball up for finishes, before the defense arrives. Her continued growth as a free throw shooter will be worth following over the coming seasons, given her ability to draw a large volume of free throws.

Martin was a standout performer from the freshman showcase last fall, no surprise to her from her dominance on the glass and defensive interior. She has excellent hand eye coordination, complemented by quick feet to wall off the lane with ease. Martin should be on radars over the coming seasons due to her limitless motor and upside on the offensive end.

Martin has had quite the start to her senior season. She kicked off the season with a double-double performance (20 points & 12 rebounds). To make that season debut even more impressive, she hit a half-court buzzer beater to send the game to overtime where her team ultimately pulled off the 71-63 win. In the very next game, she hit the go-ahead buckets to help her team secure win #2. They are now sitting at 4-0 and Martin is averaging 25 PPG and 6.8 RPG while shooting 50% overall and 37.5% from 3.

Moving up nearly 100 spots in this update, Martin goes from 128th to 35th. She was only so lowly ranked before due to an oversight on our part in previous updates. Averaging 23 points per game last season, Sydney has shown she can be a three level scorer as she gets to the rim and makes open threes.

Martin has already been named 12th Region Player of the Year by various outlets as both a sophomore and junior, so it is not surprising that she is a player that I constantly heard mentioned as a probable Miss KY Basketball candidate next season. I haven’t gotten to see her play live, so I don’t want to comment too much on her game, but I know she is a very poised 3-level scorer with D-I talent.
