I want to highlight some of the players that had huge scoring games in week 1. First, I want to note that I tried to avoid any repeats from Akeem’s articles (check out part 1 here and part 2 here), so if you aren’t included, it may be because you’re in his articles. Also would like to note that this is not a comprehensive list and I apologize for any deserving performances that are missing below!
Lowe is coming off of an injury, but you wouldn’t guess it by watching how she’s kicked off this season. She started the season off with a 17 point, 5 rebound game followed by a 27 point, 8 rebound game. In their 3rd game of the season, Lowe got her first double-double of the season after scoring 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Don’t be surprised to see Sayler average a double-double as the season goes on as she is currently averaging 20 PPG and 8.7 RPG while shooting 64.1% overall, 42.9% from 3, and 87.5% from the free throw line (as of the morning of Monday 12/5).

Wilkins just had a very impressive double-double as she put up 35 points and 13 rebounds in her team’s 1st win of the season. She went 17 of 27 from the field (63%) in the victory. After watching her play in a preseason scrimmage, I was so surprised to learn she was dealing with a hand injury because the young star is not letting that change what she brings to the court. Wilkins is a dynamic scorer who can also create good looks for her teammates. Don’t be surprised to see multiple 30+ point games from her this season.
Martin has had quite the start to her senior season. She kicked off the season with a double-double performance (20 points & 12 rebounds). To make that season debut even more impressive, she hit a half-court buzzer beater to send the game to overtime where her team ultimately pulled off the 71-63 win. In the very next game, she hit the go-ahead buckets to help her team secure win #2. They are now sitting at 4-0 and Martin is averaging 25 PPG and 6.8 RPG while shooting 50% overall and 37.5% from 3.

Owsley County had to kick off their season by playing one of the most talented teams in the state in Boyd County. While that game did not go their way, there was certainly a bright spot in sophomore Addison Terry Addison Terry 5’8″ | CG Owsley County | 2026 State KY ‘s performance. Terry scored 30 of her team’s 52 points while also grabbing over 40% of their rebounds. She finished the game with a 30 point, 14 rebound double-double. She also shot 50% from the field (12 of 24) and 54.5% from 3 (6 of 11).
Alana Smith Alana Smith 5’9″ | SF Dupont Manual | 2024 State KY is her team’s leading scorer and rebounder after their 1st 2 games. She is averaging 16.5 PPG and 7.5 RPG. Their last game in week 1 was a competitive matchup versus Great Crossing. Smith led her team to a win with her 23 point, 15 rebound double-double. The Pikeville commit is ready to open eyes across the state this season as she is playing a much larger role in her senior season. I see multiple double-doubles in Smith’s future games this season.

Edmonson County is currently sitting at 4-0 and Williams has been a huge part of their success so far this season. I really wanted to include her in my article on stat stuffers because she has been stuffing the stat sheet, but she also in the rare group of players averaging a double-double after playing multiple games in week 1. Since this article is highlighting the 1st week, here is what Williams’ averages looked like at the end of the week: 15.7 PPG, 10 RPG, 3 APG, and 2.3 BPG. She surpassed the 500 rebound mark and is poised to have a huge sophomore season for the Lady Cats.
Henderson County has played 3 games and Gibson already has 2 double-doubles this season. She is averaging 14.7 PPG and 9.3 RPG while shooting 63% from the field and 90.9% from the free throw line. Gibson put together a 14 point, 11 rebound double-double in a win over highly-ranked McCracken County and then followed that up with a 18 point, 13 rebound performance versus another highly-ranked team in Pulaski County. The sophomore showed flashes of what she brings to the court last season, but she is truly shining this season. Henderson County has an excellent history in the 2nd Region and Gibson will be looking to keep them on top this season.
Peterson was a player that I saw this summer and as soon as I watched her play, I felt she was about to have a breakout season when high school ball came around. Well here we are and she is definitely off to a great start. Her team is 2-0 and the freshman is averaging a double-double through those 1st 2 games with 11 PPG and 10.5 RPG. To make what she’s doing even more impressive, she’s shooting 75% (9-of-12) from the field and is a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line in those games. If you haven’t heard about Peterson yet, trust me when I say that you will be hearing her name a lot not only this season, but for the next 4 years as well.
