Senior for Bearden High School, Theola Mills Theola Mills 5'9" | PF Bearden | 2026 TN , managed to make a statement that she was one of the best defenders at the state tournaments, despite only playing in one game.
Mills in Bearden’s opening round game against Bartlett High School recorded four steals and five blocks.
Mills at the PF position, although not the tallest defender, excels at defending from the paint, especially in a zone defense. She knows where to be and rotate. And Mills also, if a guard slips through the crack of Bearden’s perimeter defense, has an impressive vertical and can rise and erase shot attempts with blocks.

Yes, another Bearden kid! I was so impressed with Mills and the entire Bearden squad. Theola scored 4 points but her most impressive stat line is her career high in rebounds. She hauled in 17 rebounds in the win against Greeneville. Mills is the player that does all of the dirty work! She is the athlete that sets the hard screens and does whatever it takes to help her team. She is a strong post player that will continue to turn a few heads!

Mills continues to be a great inside presence! She does so much of the dirty work for this Bearden team. She’s physical and uses her strength exceptionally well to get rebounds. Theola continues to protect the rim. She is also one of the best rim runners that you will find. She had her work cut out for her against a tough Farragut team, but she handled her own and helped Bearden get a win on Friday!

Theola Mills understands she’s running a marathan, not a sprint. She’s slowly but surely been on an upward trajectory. She’s always had standout athleticism, and power–and these give her the skills necessary to be a first class defender. She’s a phenomenal rebounder, and almost impossible to keep off the offensive glass. High efficiency finisher in the paint. Has added some versatility to her scoring package over the past year.

I keep hearing Theola Mills’ name being thrown around amongst coaches as a kid with HUGE upside, and continues to get better. As a 5’11 post, she has decent size, but plays much bigger than she is. Uses her length, athleticism, and elite anticipation to her advantage. Already a high level defender and rebounder, has taken big-time strides offensively. She’s a force when attacking the rim, can finish with either hand, and isn’t afraid of contact. If she continues to improve at the rate she’s currently moving….watch out.

From everything I’ve studied, one of the stats that translate best from HS to college is rebounding. If you’re a high level rebounder in high school, it’s a great predictor that you can/will be a high level rebounder in college. Scoring for example….doesn’t always translate.
Theola Mills is a GREAT rebounder. On the flight of the ball, you can see her doing that geometry figuring out where the ball will land on a miss (this is a skill that’s almost impossible to teach). She’s just always in the right place at the right time.
She’s an extremely strong, old school player that isn’t afraid to do the dirty work, throw her body around, and do whatever it takes to win. I really have liked her work for BMaze this spring a well. Great to see it translate to summer.

She is basically always the strongest player on the court….on every court she walks onto. Her motor is one of the best in the state. Her controllables are fantastic. Can switch 1 through 5. Underrated passing IQ on offense.
