A tough night shooting the ball from long range did not stop Wakefield from having a big impact and leaving her imprint on the game. Defensively, Wakefield had an elite performance. Not sure which are quicker her hands or her feet, but both were in constant movement and were very disruptive to the guards from Holy Innocents. In about a 7-8 second sequence at the top of the key one of the Weavers, who are very talented ball handlers, did everything they could to shake Wakefield, yet she kept chopping her feet and remained in right in front of her. Wakefield looked good attacking the baseline and slashing towards the basket. Im not sure I have seen a quicker player on the defensive end all year long. Wakefield’s offensive reputation precedes her, so it was nice to see maximum effort and her competitiveness even though her shots weren’t falling.

Wakefield is a player who lets her defense fuel her offense. A player that doesn’t give up on the play. She is always around the ball and wants the ball in her hands down the stretch. She does all the little things and is not afraid to pressure her defenders from start to finish. A player that can score when needed.

Tracy is a quick and bouncy lead guard that plays with a big motor. She had a really nice give-n-go using that quickness to pass it and fly past her defender. Her energy on both sides of the floor, unselfish play, and ability to see the floor make her an amazing teammate. Tracy had multiple steals with her defensive pressure and had some strong And One’s on Sunday, too.

Wakefield is a workhorse that never stops working. A player not afraid to get up and pressure 94ft. Her ability to hit the gaps and score in the paint is what stood out. Not afraid of the contact and rebounds well for her size. Her quickness and ability to get out in transition kept pressure on the defense. Look for Wakefield to play a huge role this season as a freshman.
