5-7 Schmidt, coming off of a 20.9 ppg season, with Burlington, has had an impressive summer showing a great ability to not only knock down the three-ball, but also to get to the hoop, at will, and finish in a variety of ways in traffic. Schmidt is a strong, physical player who has been dominating the glass, on both ends of the court and looks poised to blow away her 3.2 rebound per game average from last season.

The Burlington guard can score the ball from anywhere on the floor. Schmidt has excellent touch and can punish defenses whenever she gets around the basket. I thought she did a solid job finding weaknesses in the defense and getting her spots to score. She doesn’t play for a traditional power at the high school level, but there will be regional schools at the next level that will have some interest in her over the next 12 months.

I liked Schmidt when I saw her play for her Burlington team during the high school season, and it helped that she scored 40 in that game. However, her work to get to her spots and score efficiently, when the entire defense was built partway through the first half to keep her from scoring, was impressive. Nobody would blame her for taking the first semi-open look she got, yet she still looks for good shots, and that speaks to who she is as a player.

The Burlington guard is a player who can put the ball in the basket, with volume. Schmidt can work away from the ball and use off-ball screens to create space to catch the ball and get her shot off. I’ve noted that she scored the most points I saw in a game in Wisconsin this past year and found ways to score even when the defense was geared to keep her from touching the ball. She will probably fly under the radar, but she is a rising junior for regional programs to know.

The Burlington guard wasn’t playing for a traditional power this past high school season, but she impressed me in the game I saw. Schmidt scored 40 points, not just the focal point of her team’s offense, but the entire thing. Schmidt showed she could create space and score when five sets of eyes shifted to her when the ball was in her hands. She has the tools to play at the next level somewhere.
