One of the more versatile threats in Class 4A, Carlisle’s Hoeskstra has the size and skill-set to do damage from all over the floor, and plans to showcase that flexibility this winter.
“I’d consider my main strength to be shooting, I love to shoot it and whenever I get the ball I’m always looking to score. This offseason I worked on getting down low and taking it up strong, and my mid-range game; so I’m hoping to see that improve this year,” said Hoekstra.
A four-sport standout, Hoekstra was involved with track last spring and softball this summer, when she was available, she played with Kingdom Hoops 16U.
“I thought it went really well with Kingdom Hoops,” she said. “I primarily played the role of a shooter, and I was one of the taller girls, so when our biggest girl went out, I would go down low. I think I’m pretty versatile, so whatever we need, I can step into that role.”
As a sophomore at Carlisle, Hoekstra was sensational, leading the team with 14.9 points per game. She also rebounded it well, snaring 6.6 boards per game. Another standout sophomore from a season ago, Meredith Hoffman did not go out this season, rendering Hoekstra’s role even more essential.
“I’m really just going to look to get everyone involved. I want to get my teammates the ball, and make sure we’re getting that ball moving,” said Hoekstra. “I think that we can go pretty far, our team chemistry has been good. I think it’s going to be a good year.”
Recruitment-wise, it’s been Cornell that has reached out to Hoeskstra from in-state. She’ll be visiting Illinois D2 Lewis in a couple weeks.
An avid Basketball, volleyball, softball player, Hoekstra says she’s still undecided which she’ll want to pursue in college, but basketball is usually near the top of her list.
“It’s really tough because I love all of them,” said Hoekstra. “I love basketball, it’s something I’m really passionate about, so I’m guessing I’ll play that in college.”
