This was opening night for Montgomery County Schools as Sherwood faced Rockville to start the season. Sherwood had a good shooting night led by by senior Caroline Bidwick’s four 3-pointers in the first half to open up a huge lead. Rockville was able to keep pace in the half with Nia Newman combining to handle the scoring load in the half as the Rams tied the score before junior Hannah St. Laurent knocked down a 3 for Sherwood and that was the scoring difference as the Warriors led at the break 25-22.

[caption id="attachment_19868" align="alignnone" width="150"] Caroline Bidwick[/caption]
1) Sherwood’s Caroline Bidwick may be one of the best shooters in the area.

The Sherwood senior finished with a game high 16 points with for 3-pointers in the first half to open up the game. It is a certainty if you don’t assign a player to her she can be deadly from the outside.

[caption id="attachment_19871" align="alignnone" width="150"] Nalia Newman[/caption]
2) Rockville’s Nilia Newman is a lockdown defender.
The freshman has a lot of speed and can help the Rams slow down their opponents top threat. She came in and was assigned to Bidwick and made a big difference slowing her down to aid in bringing the game closer. Her quickness helps her break down defensives and opponents need to take her speed into account to avoid foul trouble.

[caption id="attachment_19870" align="alignnone" width="150"] Angela Nnabue[/caption]
3) Freshman Angela Nnabue is one of Montgomery County’s top players.
It has been a while since we’ve seen a player in Mo Co as dynamic as Nnabue especially in the public school system. She had several jaw dropping plays in transition and has great timing in her shot blocking as the 5’6” freshman ended with 5 blocks to go along with her 12 points. I can see her on an all-county team as a freshman and as an all met in before her career ends.

[caption id="attachment_19869" align="alignnone" width="150"] Nia Newman[/caption]
4) Twin sisters Nalia and Nia Newman are solid addition for the Rams.
The Newman twins combined for 12 points in the game but, more importantly was their impact on the floor especially when in together. Nalia can score from anywhere and the two seem to feed off of each other’s energy.

[caption id="attachment_19872" align="alignnone" width="150"] Chase Bell[/caption]
5) Sherwood will be the team to beat in the county moving forward.
The Warriors have a load of talented freshman who are contributing right away. Nnabue can do it all and Chase Bell who knocked down back to back 3 pointers to seal the win is another player defenses need to be concerned about. Add in Madison Tringone who scored 6 in a pivotal second half and this team has talent to carry them for years to come.
