In some programs many may shy away from even suiting up freshman on varsity. Whether that decision is made from “inherited rules” or experiences, these programs do not stand by that type of standard. The Class of 2022 girl’s basketball players listed included teams that have at least 2 freshman that make a difference in some significant way and consume many minutes in their season. All of these girls are a must see and with state and the travel season right around the corner, you will have your chance to witness these basketball players! Here is a small non-inclusive list of a few freshman in the state of Oklahoma!
Norman
Coach Neal at Norman is definitely not a stranger to allowing freshman to have opportunities to contribute significantly. In Norman’s girl’s basketball entirety, the team is pretty young. Nonetheless, it’s believed that these freshmen have smoother transition into being leaders on the court considering the entire team is youthful.
Mikayla Parks,5’10: Plays well with tempo, high IQ and a good defender. She also likes to shoot the 3 with some range, a lot of control when attacking and finishes really well.
Myka Perry, 6’0, Finesse player with exceptional ball-handling that has a really nice touch on the ball while dribbling and any type of ball-handling, is not turnover prone and a person that you enjoy seeing the ball her hands to see what she does with it.
Booker T. Washington
Booker T. Washington has a longer history of success in its program, hosting hand of many state championship rings. The team is loaded with talent and talent with potential but how hard they play is unlike many teams. To be on this team, you must play hard and have some tempo. Even though this is their first full year in 6A and even still Booker T. allows responsibility in its youngest varsity players, freshman from the class of 2022.
Carrigan Hill: Exceptional ball-handler with a keen eye for the 3-point shot. She often finds the right pass to the correct teammate. Aside from her offensive traits, she causes pressure with her on ball defense and is faster than a lot of her peers.
Aunisty Smith: Good shooter with a lot of range. When she gets hot, she is hard to miss a shot. Aunisty will aggressively take the direct drive if given but prefers the 3 pointer.
MUSTANG
Mustang has winning season with 27 wins and 8 losses and majority coming from top 10 ranked opponents. With a significant contribution from Seniors on the team. Mustang is not shy on feeding the ball to their freshman with Class of 2022 members leading the way in many games.
Jaki Rollins: Strong player that can knock down 3 but her strong suit is her ability to penetrate good defense and can handle the ball…she’s a combo guard and all-around player.
Talia Pogi: Efficient at shooting outside shots in total and is consistent at making the 3 pointer at all times.
Midwest City
A team that has struggled with injuries majority of the year, the grade play evens out at Midwest City. With a long history of successful program that plays all types of players, these freshman had the opportunity to step up and they successfully rose to the occasion.
Taliyah Anderson: High motor player with a canny ability to drive to the basket in transition and in a half court set. She is a great facilitating the ball and has the ability to knock down the 3 pointer
Brianna Williams: Consistent at making the 3 pointer. She goes coast to coast well and plays with tempo.
