It’s very early in the process but the class looks to have some solid depth to it, with several ladies who look like future D1 level players. Here is a breakdown of the top 10 our 2021 Class Rankings:
- Trinity McGee, Christian County – 8 points and 6 rebounds per game isn’t going to blow anyone away but McGee has elite level size that cannot be taught. At 6’2, Trinity is a force to be reckoned with on the block and will only get better as she raises her skill level and keeps improving, McGee will be a force.
- Marissa Gasaway, Eastern – Already an elite rebounder at 13.2 rebounds per game as a Sophomore, Gasaway has a high ceiling as a potential college recruit. Shooting just shy of 50% for the season, she could really take her game to the next level if she could show the ability to stretch the floor with some perimeter shooting.
- Jacqueline Jackson, Greenwood – Coming off a Sophomore season where she averaged 15 points and 7 rebounds per game, Jackson is only going to keep getting better as her game develops. If she can improve her 25% three point shooting and 65% free throw shooting, she can easily be a 20+ point per game scorer next season.
- Brooklynn Miles, Franklin County – Even though she’s only 5’5 and a point guard, Miles was still third on the team in rebounding for the Lady Flyers this season. In addition to leading the team in scoring at 20.7 points per game, Miles spends the majority of the game with the ball in her hands and draws a lot of defenders every time she takes off towards the rim. Improving her 29.5% three point shooting will force defenses to respect her jump shot more in the future.
- Elise Ellison-Coons, Dunbar – After averaging a double-double as a sophomore at 17.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game and surpassing the 1,000 point mark in her career at Dunbar, Ellison-Coons recruitment is likely to take off this summer. Elise will need to become a more efficient scorer than her 38% from the field this season as she continues her high school career.
The Next 5:
- Mya Meredith, Scott – One of the highest scoring players in the state, Meredith averaged 25 points per game in her Junior season and could make a case that she deserves to be in the top 3 in the class based on stats and impact made on the game.
- Kayra Freeman, John Hardin – Freeman’s Junior season ended after one game for the Lady Bulldogs but she flashed enough potential as a freshman to merit this spot in the rankings.
- Harley Paynter, Boyd County – Paynter has been second fiddle to Savannah Wheeler for a couple years but will ascend to the top spot at Boyd next season. She is averaging 16 points per game heading into Rupp Arena next week.
- Hayley Caudill, Hazard – A fairly good shooter already, Caudill could see a jump in her averages if she could become a better shooter from behind the three point line over the next two years.
- Raigan King, Pineville – After averaging 16 points and 8 rebounds per game, the 6’0 center shot a crazy 66% from the field for the season.
